RESTO My Big Red Racing Carbon Fiber GSX Builds

I'm not sure. I paid $1000 for the hull and there is a couple ways for me to get that back. One is just to offer it up for that but I probably should make it a runner in the $2000 range. I have a clean stock steering from a 97GSX I could put on there. Then I would go with a stock pump also.

It's offensively light. The ski complete feels lighter than my 99GSX hull by itself.

Yeah I was just determined to use that custom yellow "one off" (and btw shouldn't it be "one of"? as in "one of a kind"?) carbon fiber hood that was made for it. Then I got the yellow grab bar and oil and gas caps from the $50 donor so the yellow splash guard just fit the theme too well to not use. I'm working on a larger red one from Minnetonka4me for the other hull.

Yeah but I'll save it for the next fella. I need to pick a couple keepers and sell the rest eventually. I want to build a ski that can replace one of the RXX's. I'll just put my good but least expensive parts on it and pass it on. It saves the ski and clarifies things for me. I'm looking forward to assembling the second one now.

looks like a stock gsx seat to me, just the 2nd hump is more pronounced bc of the stitching, but i'm sure matt will comment shortly

Yes the po of the 99GSX sent it off to a guy that did it. He shaved a bunch off in places and then added the back support.

Well I got the fuel tank strapped in over rubber strips that I glued to the hull. I'm moving the UMI setup over to it and a stock red 97 steering assembly is going on the other one. I'm going to swap the rails over to black using the 99GSX limited hull as the donor. I'm looking for a deal on a carbon fiber GSX hood now(not easy to do). I just ordered a few of the little bits I was missing from Minnetonka4me so I should have some pretty complete looking pics next week.

No only the 99 GSX is dead and it's 951 and associated parts are going into the black and white carbon hull on the far end. I give the hulls away when I'm done, no junk here.

If someone wanted to ride tomorrow I'm ready 6 different ways.

I have had a little time to put the second one together. I used the same engine, carbs, and pipe but left the rest in the first hull so I can throw it together with a non-ported 787 and sell it.

I set the timing and it sounds super on the trailer but don't they all. I can't wait to dunk it in tomorrow and see what it rides like.

You got it in the water yet?

Yes and thank God it's a winner!!! It is super light and tracks straight. It turns right and left fine and predictably pulls out of anything. I've been lazy today but will continue moving forward with it tomorrow.

It had X4 size trim tabs in back that have been removed(seems to handle fine without them). However one of the old holes that I thought was siliconed was pouring water strait in so my test time was limited. I've got lots of goodies to add to it that I can now do with confidence because I know this is a keeper.

I'm very, very happy. This will free me up to sell a RXX.

photo(23).JPGThanks Minne. I can put X4 tabs on it if I need it but it really does seem perfect right now. Sitting normally on the seat it will jump out of the water when I slam it. Sitting forward on the seat it shoots a straight line.

I put a stick in the hole that was leaking and took the wife and little dog around the lake. We saw a bald eagle so that was cool. Then I went out by myself and through it around a little more. It is way more racer then rec rider. It snaps forward and turns right and left very abruptly.

I love the look also. All those decals were put on back in 96 and I want to leave it just like that. I do have a splash guard(from Minnetonka4me) for it and that black railing from the 99GSX I stripped.

Nice! For some reason I like the look of this one better. I really like the registration numbers and the turf! I wasn't a fan of that yammie hull out of the water, it just looked weird and kinda tall.
