Want to remove muffler on Challenger(I like noise):hurray:.Anyone done this on this or similar Seadoo ? Boat is stock except installed "97 carbs w/accel pump and R&D arrestor, pushing 175psi cylinder. My only concern here is keeping outlet cool to proctect transom.

Just install a fancy stereo, and play pre recorded sounds from the local drag strip! You could really have fun with it this way.

I dont want a stereo, thats the point, I want to hear engine. I always change mufflers on cars so I can hear how engine is running(rich/lean).I hate when I cant hear clearly at all times. I thought I joined mechanical forum not comedy forum. Burt Monroe where are you ?

Take off the back hatch...I drove mine for a short time with the hatch removed after putting in the new engine so I could get in there quickly and make adjustments. It was quite a bit louder.

I got tired of having to pull the hatch open, pull out the shelf and all the life vests, then hang upside down to adjust the carbs, so I left it all off for a short time until everything was adjusted as needed.

Might be a bit louder if you pulled out the shelf and removed all the insulation in the hatch, if you didn't want to lose the cover.

:rofl::rofl::rofl: Sorry!

OK OK, but you have to admit, that with an MP 3 player, and a good stereo, you could have a bit of fun!

And, I was thinking along the same lines... Rich & Lean. If you had those Temp gauges like Volkswagen used on the spark plugs, you could monitor each cylinder temp much better. Where would you install the gauges, from VW? It would really give you a good system to watch temps on each cyl.

I know what ya mean BlakHok. My dad has a 2007 Chaparral SSI with a 375 HP engine. He's got something on it where with a flip of a switch it gets really loud, sounds like a Harley on the water. The feature somehow diverts the boat's exhaust from underwater to an outlet in the hull. I'll try to find out a little more about this for a Seadoo app. but I'm not sure it will work.

Engine performance?....

If you'll notice, the resonator has a water line connected to it by a valve that looks similar to a RAVE. That valve opens and closes and directs water to certain areas (front or rear) of the exhaust system for proper engine performance. In correct adjustments or eliminating it will likely cause engine damage.

There are aftermarket exhaust systems that are loud you can buy that still have the water injection system on them.........you might look into that.

Exhaust

I totally agree with SNIPE. Removing the resonator will make it louder.
PROBLEM: The lower part of the exhaust system, including hull, will melt down and if you listen real close you'll be able to hear your pistons melting also.

exhausted

I was not going to remove the water box/resonator but instead remove muffler that is installed on these jet boats.I have noticed that most pwc do not even use these things so figure it could do without anyways. The idea of changing to aftermarket waterbox may help yet seems uneccesary if pipe or hose is used to bypass muffler similar to pwc.I would retain original water hose at outlet to keep transom/bushing cool.I can certainly fabricate something nice if given time however if someone has already performed this mod. using say a specific pwc hose from certain year that would help speed things up....................I would also like to thank those of you who helped me convert from needle gages to lcd unit. What an improvement!!! I couldnt stand that fuel gage and now have secondary overheat, low fuel and battery condition lights(better than nothing and stock configuration). Great modification!

...and yes I had a '69 MGB w/dual SU's.Best way to tune was w/pvc hose stuck in carb. and listen to exhaust note(almost dailey it seemed). And yes I converted the lucas electrical system to GM standard units and yes NO MUFFLER! :auto:

Exhaust

In your original post you said you wanted to remove the RESONATOR. That would be a big mistake.

Noise!....

In short, if you want cherry bombs on your Doo to make it sound cool, you won't be able to do that with the stock exhaust, without overheating the engine.

There are aftermarket exhaust systems that can create the effect your looking for................Good luck!.....

actually you joined seadoo forum..... your boat is quiet for a couple reasons 1 the exaust is cooled by water so it muffels the sound and 2 exhaust out let is under water. Only way i can think of to help you out would be to tell you to install i through hull exhaust
