Can the MPEM on a 1996 Speedster be bad if the fuses are not blowing?

When the MPEM goes bad, is it gone completely or will it function normally some times?

Thanks

If it goes bad it might just not work. If your seadoo has a dess it should beep 2 times, when connected to the lanyard. Is the battery fully charged? Is the starter solenoid relay clicking? If nothing is working and the battery is fairly new and all the power connections are good and clean ....the mpem might be bad.

Thanks or the fast reply, trying to get this boat going for the weekend. I usually get two beeps sometime it starts and sometime i get a long beep when i press the start button. When i am underway, both engines will instantly shut down as if i pulled the key.

I have checked all connection and the battery cables and the ground - all good.

I put a new DESS post in two years ago, could it be bad already? or do you think i have a MPEM problem?

It sounds like it has a dirty lanyard post. Clean it with soap and water. Clean the lanyard cap too. Don't use anything on the cap or post like sprays or anything just clean it... If you want also check the wiring where it plugs in to the harness. It sounds like the MPEM is ok.
I'll be on here on and off over the weekend if you need more help.

Thanks Karl, going to the lake tommorrow - no computer, i''ll let you know how things went on Tuesday.

Ok, we'll be here for you. I'm pretty sure that might be the problem. Have a good safe weekend.

Ok,

Just returned from the lake, same old problem. Washed the DESS post and the key real good with Dawn soap and water. Sometime it started and sometimes it didnt. I got it started and running twice, both times my neighbor had to come out and get me and tow me back to my dock. i had it running about twenty minutes the second time out. The speedster was running awsome, both engines were running great and the boat was handling great, then both engines cut off completly at the same exact time like i pulled the saftey lanyard. dead in the water!

I am going to buy a $91 DESS post this week unless someone has a better solution.

I already have a brand new key.

Dess....

Just read your thread.............buy the post. It's bad. That will solve your problem.

Oh, BTW ....you just unbolt and replace, there is no programming needed. It's a simple fix...
