Mercury M2 Jet Wear Ring Repairs

I have reviewed the how-to thread on repairing the wear ring on the M2 jet with JB Weld, and have a few questions.

Does the JB Weld repair just last a season, and needs to be reapplied each year?

Has anyone tried to use some thing like HTS2000 ( www.aluminumrepair.com ) to fill in the gouges and then have the inside machined smooth again? I have used HTS2000 to repair many aluminum items and it works great.

JB Weld will hold fine... assuming you aren't pumping sand and rocks all the time. If you are introducing any real machine work... you may as well just have the shop install a stainless sleeve.
