melted negative post...?

So... I have been messin with the SPX today and tuning the carbs a fair bit to get it remotely "running" and it was doin the infamous bump spin (you guys know what i mean, like a weak battery would just bump the motor over, one stroke at a time) and i let it sit for a bit, and then i came back and it wont start at all! i look at the battery, and the negative post on the battery is melted!

wtf? bad connection? :cool:
 
I would say you either had a high resistive connection (corrosion) on the battery terminal, or a bad negative cable, either would cause the wire and or connection to get hot. It's unusual it would get hot enough to melt the battery post.

When the starter isn't spinning properly (even from a weak battery) the current goes through the roof, and that's how you destroy the starter, and the cables.
 
i'll check it out in a few days. this season i'll be tinkering with them. not much riding since the fiance is expecting..
