Need help in wiring to battery

Hi everyone! I recently purchased a 1998 Sportster 1800. However the previous owner remove the battery and disconnect numbers of wiring from the boat. I am trying to put it back together. I attached two photos that I am not sure if I should attach to positive or negative of the battery. Also what are those wire for?

Any help is fully appreciated!! I am a newbie to the boat so I apologized if this is a 3rd grade question. Thanks in advance !!

WOW!
That wiring is a total hack job. Nothing is sealed and water proof or spark proof. I would trace each wire and start over using marine wire, marine terminals and marine heat-shrink.
