My sea-doo boat has a max passenger rating of 8 persons. If I have a 7 month old baby on board does it count as a person? I know that on an airplane, the FAA does not consider anyone under the age of 2 a person requiring a seat. Is the the same for boats?

If the baby on board keeps it from planing, then it IS a person. IF it still planes, it is NOT a person

If you look at the rating it will say like 7 passengers or 650 pounds.

Check the rating sign.

Ok so i looked and it says 8 person or 1383 lbs. So can I put 9 people (including baby) if all equipment and people way under 1383 lbs?

With the rating, is it AND or is it OR?
And will marine patrol make up their own minds about it if they're in a bad mood?
figuring 150 per person (small people), 1383 lbs is 9 people...
I just don't want to get a ticket from an unhappy patrolman.

Thanks!

It will always be "OR" never "AND", as it would be too much over weight. Look at the rating it clearly says "OR". Emphasis on total capacity.

I guess I wasn't clear in my question... what I mean is if you have 9 adults that only weigh 1100 lbs between them in a boat that says 8 persons or 1383 lbs, will they still give you a ticket because you exceeded one of the numbers?

Yes, you will get a ticket...that number alows for gear for a total capacity. it is based on seating also that is why it is listed for 8 persons. You can't seat 9 if it only has seating for 8.

also boat will be uber slow when at full capacity. I dont know if you have big family but I took my challanger out once with full capacity and damn it took forever to get it up to speed. with 3 of us felt great.

ohh and if you have 8 people make sure you have 8 life jackets. and other safety equipment, I got a warning cause I forgot the damn fire ext. at first time out

We should all exercise caution when operating any boat under any load for any reason.

But even more care should taken when hauling a full capacity boat.....and several generations of family or friends.
