Make the US go Metric

the rodent is mistaken,
we went metric in 1980, I remember this because we had a guy come to my 8th grade class and explain it to us.

I remember folding little pieces of paper to make a "gram" and a "kilogram" i learned a lot that day.

lol, I'm just tired of 2 tools for every job and guessing at what bolt the manufacture had in stock that day.

We should also move to base 10 time, but that's an even bigger ask...

The US system is just so obviously, disgustingly flawed that it's nauseating...

I'm thinking the rodent forgot to take his prozac today.

I sorta agree with what he's saying but what really irritates me is using both SAE and metric on the same vehicle. Metric is much easier for most things, but the problem arises with measurement of distance, kilometer vs. mile, metric vs. ft., in. yard. So changing to metric for bolts fasteners O.K., no for distance.

You can tell that the forum is pretty inactive when this is all we've got to talk about.

Overall I think metric is better for most things. Up north, we switched over many years ago, but not entirely. Some things still stick around like 8 foot 2x4's, pressure is psi, don't even know what kpa is, and I still need two sets of tools. But having everything based on 10 does make things easier.

If I recall correctly, aggravating people is a great way to get them talking :)

also, this forum is dead in winter...

I agree w/Lou, my 04 Wrangler... much of the engine was metric, as were several parts under the hood, but the axles were standard I think...

I read somewhere there are over 100 units of measure for US for capacity... while metric.. has... ONE.

I'll see if I can find the link.

I'm on it.

THE US MEASUREMENT SYSTEM IS THE STUPIDEST THING EVER INVENTED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and what's even stupider is we live in a country that is forced to use both.

You want to try Australia we have Bristish Std and Whitworth (all but gone now) as well as SAE and Metric...I drive a 2007 JK Jeep and yep I need two lots of spanners to maintain it lol....Then we have CAT stuff at work and its the same?

I would have thought the JK would be all metric by now... I'm looking at a 2012 next spring or so... when they depreciate enough for me to pick one up :)

Had mine since new...would buy another tomorrow if it came out as V8 (I have 2.8ltr Diesel) got grunt (pulls 25ft caravan no effort) but it doesnt have the power on the beach I would like...sorry for hijacking thread...

i don't care if "most" of the world uses metric,

Burma and Liberia use SAE, and heck, if Burma uses it, it can't be wrong.... My buddy from Burma says,,, "if SAE is wrong, I don't wanna be right"

Hence me looking at the 2012... they put a better engine in it... I had a 2004 w/the 4.0L. That was fun.

2007: 202 HP
2012: 285 HP

In the US, we have no diesel option for the JK...
