Hey I was out today ripping my sea doo, probably a good hour i was out.
When I was coming back in to finish up, I noticed a loss of power... I was going around 60 all day, then as I was coming in I couldnt get over 30... i drove around a bit waited till water was calm still could only hit 30.

I got back in, checked the bay, about 1/4 full of water.

Then when I pulled it out, I seen the jet pump nozzle missing.

I will upload pics in a minute, but the cone that goes on the front was gone.

I took it all off, and it seems to spin ok, but some of the fins are chewed up infront of the impellor.

I'm interested in seeing the photo. I'm not really following what front cone you could be speaking of. Once we figure out what you need, you could contact a member here that sells used parts. His name is Minnetonka4me.

Tim,

I have a feeling he's talking about the wear ring, if he lost the nozzle he wouldn't have steering.

Post photos of the fins if you can. You may be able to file it smooth. You will have to get a cone. Minnetonka will be able help you.

Wow!!! You're gonna need a "new" pump, PM minnetonka4me and get a good used one, with the cone broken off there's nothing to keep the water out. See if he has a bronze pump.

Added: I'm not sure what I'm seeing, there's a piece of plastic in picture 2, is that part of the pump, it looks like a fin. Before we condemn the pump go ahead and pull it and get a picture from the front side of the pump, that piece might be part of the wear ring.

Shouldnt there be a vertical bar on the end of the nozzle which would of stopped the cone disappearing ?
Dont see how that would allow water in the hull? the cone and seal stop the pump oil escaping ,wouldnt of thought water could travel back though there ?

DANG!! Had you recently done any maintenance on pump? I not 100% sure exactly what is all is going on in this picture. Could you get a few more pictures up?

Talk about catastrophic wear ring failure. I'm guessing a long strip of the wear ring liner came out and whipped around the impeller snapping off the cone. This is why I like the SBT 1 piece ring better. When my stock wear ring failed the liner was all tangled up in the impeller.

Did the 3 bolts on the cone break off or fall out? Even if he can salvage this thing he has to rebuild the pump anyway with new bearings, shaft (rust) and maybe an impeller. He might be better off with a decent used pump that's complete and save a few bucks.

To me from up close, it looks like NONE of the bolts broke off. They all came out.

I just put in a BRAND new wear ring. But the guy who put it in didnt put the 2 screws in the top or bottom cause he said it lets the wear ring live longer.

I wd40d it when I got home, the propeller still seems to spin ok, he told me to try to check out if the bearings were good. To me it seems ok, a bit of metal noise but pretty free.

Not sure what you mean 1 piece wear ring, my new wear ring was just one big plastic ring. Impeller looks a little bit beat up, like 3 of the fins are chewed up tho.

Kinda hard to get pictures for this tho but this is the best i could do

This is the worst looking fin

Amd from what i can see wear ring still oooks mint, not even a scratch on it where the impeller should have hit it

I'm not sure how it's set up on your seadoo, on mine the bolts mentioned are in a plastic block at the back of the housing to keep the head from spinning while you torque it down - I had to replace 3 of these blocks on my 97 when I did the wear ring because they looked beat up and iffy / didn't seem like they would hold..

I wonder if that's part of the issue?

It's already starting to rust. I would go ahead and dismantle the pump and let it dry out, then spray some lube into the pump to keep the bearings from rusting, fogging oil is O.K.

BTW, my original assessment was wrong, it looks like part of the wear ring, so you will need a new wear ring plus rebuild the pump and a new cone.

for real? is it cause dude didnt put the screws in? I just bought the ring for 80 bucks 3 days ago.

how do I dismantle it? I esentially have to rebuild the whole pump?

Left screws out because it "lets the wear ring live longer" Wonder why the engineers that designed and built this thing didn't firgure that out?

You might want to ask him if he happend to leave any other fasteners or parts out on any other repairs he may have done?
You know if you only put two motormount bolts in on opposite corners it allows everything to flex better!!! (what a dump ass) let's give the guy the benefit of the doubt and assume he screwed up the threads and was just too sorry too replace them as opposed to really thinking that was a better way.

The manual calls for red threadlok, which he probably didn't use any. You could check the one that's left and see if there's any thread lok on it.

I'd hate to sound stupid but my original wear ring had no screws holding it in and every wear ring I have ever put in I have never used the screws. They all fit so tight so I never thought there was a need for the screws. If the factory didn't do it why should I and I have never had a problem with a wear ring causing any damage. My gsxl has never had screws to hold the wear ring.
