Based on what I’m reading the 515 basically goes on all the rubber seals i replaced on the head, yeah? That’s cylinder, around the head, around the plugs. Is there any that I DON’T on the head? I just put all the new rubber seals on.

On a 580 motor? I have never put any sealant on any of them, just put them in dry and gently set the head on without rolling them out of the groove.

The shop manual says to use it, but they don't use it when they put them together at the factory?

I have rebuilt many seadoo/skidoo motors with this type of cylinder and water jacket seal and have never seen any evidence of any kind of sealant ever.

Side question; on the stand, no exhaust, throttle plates wide open, no pressure in the other cylinder when testing, cylinders lightly coated with a finger spread of 2 stroke oil...... is there anything out of all that which would throw these readings off or should I believe them? They are what I expected them to be, i just want to be sure that’s about as good as i can get for a reading. One complete jug setup is brand new, the other just has new rings. It was fine before, still has cross hatching. I just made sure it matched the new jug as closely as possible.

150 psi on the pto side is great. I looks like the mag side is 140. They are within 10% of each other so those numbers are acceptable. If it was mine I would be looking to get them both even. If I ever have 5 psi or more between cylinders I go into it to, but that is just the way I am.

You say you threw new rings in on one side, I assume it was the pto. If you throw new rings in you should hone the cylinder as well. Just because it has some cross hatch doesn't mean the new rings are going to seal things up properly. Standard practice with replacing rings is a fresh hone job so the two surfaces wear in to match each other. If it was my machine I would take the time to pull that mag cylinder out and give it a few passes with a hone, it's not too late.

I can’t find info on the correct size ball hone. I’ve been trying for weeks. I’m looking at a 3-1/4” (83mm) flex ball hone for my 77.94 cylinder. It’s as close as i can find but I’m not doing it if it’ll cause issue and nobody seems to know if it’ll bend and work properly without changing anything.
