Hi All,

My doo is leaking oil from one of the two oil filters below the oil rez. I have narrowed it down to the oil line being cracked around the nipple end of the filter. I know that I can just cut the bad peice off and insert the newer end over and fix the leak, but....................I remember reading some where that I need to be careful about getting air in these lines. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so, how do I manage to get the air out after fixing the leak? I looked back on some threads and did a search of threads, but could not find the one I read concerning the air and oil lines.

Thanks in advance for any help!!

Scott

Hey Scott, when you cut the line don't let oil leak out and leave a air bubble in it's place. Remember air floats to the top, so if you do get a bubble it will float to the reserve tank.... you'll be fine.

How hard is it to replace the oil filters? I noticed in the owners manual it says to carry to an authorized service center for oil filter replacement but it looks pretty easy to do.

It's not hard.

Just cut the zip ties, pop the filter off (cover the hose or hold it up to keep it from leaking everywhere) put the new filter on the hose going to the tank, and let the oil flow into it, (hold the open end up to let the air out) then push it in to the hose going into the engine.

If you are carful... you will spill very little oil, and you wont' have to purge the system. BUT... if you think you captured air... bleed it out so you don't hurt the engine.

I can do one in a sitdown ski in about 5 minuets. (including clean-up) Grab a towel, rubber gloves, 2 zip ties, a filter, and a set of wire cutters, and have at it. A boat takes a little longer since I have to crawl into the engine compartment.
