Just had a disappointing trip

Drove a few hours to Fort Wayne to check out a 02 RXDI and a old Kawasaki 750 3 seater because I miss my old RX. I wasn't really interested in the other ski but he wouldn't break up the pair so had to take them or leave them. When I arrived boy was I disappointed! In the pictures the skis looked clean but in person they were pretty beat up. Lots of rub rash on the side of the RXDI and the decals and seat are in poor condition and the other ski was just as bad. I decided to check them out and when I tried to start them click, click.. Luckily, I brought a battery and threw that in there (he seemed surprised by this) and did a quick compression check: Front cylinder was 108-111 and rear was 119-121. Decided to pass as a engine rebuild is in the future of this ski but it was disappointing none the less. To be honest these skis didn't look to be serviced well either lots of mold and nasty's in the engine bay. The seller wouldn't even budge on the price even after I showed him the compression numbers. Honestly, he didn't seem surprised or seemed to care by the results I found. He just kept saying they ran great 2 years ago. Just goes to show buyer beware. I see he has listed them on craigslist again but took out the "runs great" part that I saw in the last ad yesterday.

WOW, Let the buyer beware.
Some of these sellers think their toys are worth top dollar when they are in pi$$ poor condition and low comp readings as in this case.
What was he asking and did you offer him anything?

He was asking $2500 for everything, no doubt a good deal if in good running condition. I offered him 2k for everything. He didn't have a title to the Kawasaki but claimed Indiana does not title skis that are worth under 3k (don't know if that is true or not). He was firm at his price regardless of the compression readings. The most disturbing part was how well those skis looked in the pictures.. when I arrived, I for sure thought this has gotta be the wrong house.

You win some and you lose some.

I drove from Clarkston out to Gary,IN and got a hell of a deal on my 96 XP 800s and he started them both right up when I got there and started pointing out everything that was wrong with them to give me a head start on bringing them back to 100%, I was lucky. I think the no title 3k thing is complete BS both my skis had valid Indiana titles when I bought them and those skis were not worth 3k a piece, not even close.

Bringing a battery with you was smart! Bringing your compression gauge was super smart. All buyers should follow your lead. Disappointing I know but well played!

Funny your said that "you win some you lose some" I was just telling a buddy of mine that. I'm sure even in parts value there might be little money to be had on that deal but I don't have time to hassle with parting things out. Too much work/time.

Im from fort wayne if you ever need to me to check out a ski for you. As for the "no title for skis under 3 k" thats total crap. In indiana anything that goes on public roads or public waters has a title, with the except of kayaks and canoes. Even the tiniest dump trailer will need a title to run on an indiana road. Good looking out sounds like a sketchy seller.
