Just purchased a 1999 Seadoo Speedster SK, had the ski but decided I wanted a jet boat as well. I do not really understand the fulldifferences in the normal speedster and the speedster SK though.

Just started cleaning the boat and prepping it, had to replace a few items including the port engine flywheel and stator, next adding a voltage gauge by livorsi marine then adding led lights to the boat, underwater stern lights an a clarion cdma6 radio, then a JL audio amp and jl audio 7.7" coax speakers only need 4 due to the size and power of them. Down the road I will be adin another amp and wakeboard tower with 4 more speakers, simple for now. I think I am going to upgrade to livorsi controls and pop up cleats as well, I hate the look of fixed plastic cleats. I do have to say I very much like the storage up front vs another seat.

Im still deciding which type of interior led lights to use, I am certain on blue, just not what type yet. I am going to change out all the toggle switches to carling blue led ones as well, I am thinking to add the 2nd battery to the bow as not much room in engine bay unless I can turn the factory battery sideways.

Im going to retain the factory white deck cockpit lights in white plus add 2 more in white under each console, then add 4 led blue ones as well, can flip to white to see or blue for looks. Going to add the livorsi led lighted cup holders as well, also led nav lights. I think I am going to add 2 bright led white lights to the engine bay as well to see in at night, the factory cockpit light bulbs will be changed to led white though, to keep energy consumption and heat down the boat will only use led lighting.

The next step is to redue the hull as the last owner had the bottom painted, and they went right over the old growth so I will sand and re gelcoat the bottom in all yellow, then while off the trailer the trailer is getting painted yellow as well and fitted with all new led lights and guide poles with led lights.

I like adding guide poles for more lights then add a amber light on the front of each to see backing up easier at night.

One thing to note I do need to replace all seats and armrests, they are of coarse yellow so if anyone can get these all brand new for cheap let me know or if you part one out im willing to purchase them all.

Nice boat man, congrats. Amazing how even the older SD's have nice contemporary looks to this day. Looks new and in great shape.

+1 on the LED's, check a search here, the blue LED cabin bulbs and light strings are not only cool looking, but give plenty of "seeing" light as well.

Enjoy.

Looks are deceiving, the entire boat is in the process of a major restoration, heavy compounding was needed as the entire boat was oxidized very bad even in the cockpit area, I just started to buff on it and will finish tomorrow, this will look just like new when done, my vehicles love me, well they would if they could, I try to bring everything back to new or better. As well seats are not torn, but the stupid yellow turned brown in many area's on them, I removed the engine last week and the other day degrased and pressure washed the engine bay, I need to fix/replace builge pump and sending unit for the fuel.......... If you cannot tell I actually preform marine work for a living with my own business.

In regards to the price I sold two non running seadoo rx's 2000 models to one of the members on this site, what I paid for them was very cheap and sold them for enough to purchase this boat for $1000.00.

wow, that sounds like a win win..
need to find someone like you in Miami.
I'd run to get you wenchs to learn more on fixing boats on the weekennds over some beer

If you ever have the time and need of some major mods with extensive work you could always transport the boat to my location for the work, I also can provide transport service. Custom work is where I really have fun. I tend to take my own things to the extreme. Just like my truck in my avatar!

Its really all about how you want your own vehicle/vessel to be, with me I am sort of a perfectionist, I never short cut anything and take pride in my work so my customers always return, its the little things that can make a big difference, just $50 in king marine starboard and a table saw and router, and drill can make bunk slides that allow your boat/ski to slide on and off your trailer so easy its like its not even there, I built these onto my trailer for my gtx and im not kidding when I say I can release the straps and (dry) give her a light puch at the bow and she will slide right off the trailer even on a flat surface, I am going to do the same with this boat trailer when I redo it.

The most fun is buffing inside the cockpit area then removing the cheap crappy looking registration numbers and adding my own custom ones, then removing all stickers that I dont care for, for instance all the little round bombard stickers are gone....... only decals and seadoo will stay, anything that says bombar will go as they look cheap.

The other fun part is buffing out the black dual console lids back to a perfect shine with no burn and no swirl marks.

I was very happy to pick up this boat as I no longer had a boat only a seadoo gtx to ride so I could not ride at night which is more of what I enjoy after a long day.

I am heading to bed since I gotta get up at 6 for work, but I will post lots of tips for you tomorrow. Pretty much the only difference between the SK and the regular speedster is you have twin 85HP motors the others are twin 110's, and the front bow cover instead of the useless seat.

You can do some cheap stuff with the LED's yourself over any kit...Read some of my threads under modify. I added a 2nd battery with lots of pics...I will post links and stuff for ya tomor.

wow Rfoster I just saw your lights and your gauges wow! nice man! do you have pictures of your whole boat, you did a nice job! nice looking boat..

Still need to hand wax now. Next polishing the cockpit fiberglass. It's hot as heck here today. I bought the meratic acid to try and clean the hull. For anyone wondering when you have someone else detail your boat why it's expensive a professional like myself can have easy 10-20 hours into it. I charge $14 per foot but for extreme jobs like my seadoo here it gets much more. To make that boat look like it came off the showroom floor is very time consuming but this boat is looking assume! The time involved was also removing all grab handles and cleats to properly detail it also removed the old turf off the deck lid which was a royal pain.

Looks good. through some new hydroturf on there and it will look like a new boat.

I'm adding a complete yellow hydro turf kit to the boat, and a seadoo sticker on the rear deck, I also removed the old registration numbers as they where cheap and not lined up. Those little round bombardier stickers will not be going back on the boat

I have not looked over your posts yet but thanks for that link, I actually own and run a auto and marine business so this stuff is what I do everyday, I'm just debating what and where to place things, I may upgrade to the 787's or try 951's down the road. 50mph is way to slow for me, but then again I used to own a baja speedboat that did around 75mph! I'm a huge livorsi fan, that's why I stated I may just replace the cup holders with yellow stainless/ alum lighted ones from them, I'm going to down the road look at the controls and see if I can use livorsi controls, I want super bright blue lights under water on rear deck, those I'm unsure of, I think the jl audio amp and 4 jl audio coax 7.7" speakers should be nice and loud.

Today starts the battle with the bottom of the boat, someone had the bright idea to bottom paint right over the barnicle calcium deposits and alge, so they never even sanded and prepped the bottom, I have already blasted as much that would come off with the pressure washer and almost all paint is gone, last night I sprayed with meratic acid and let sit until this morning, this morning I rinsed off and after I get back from a customers boat I will start the bottom today, I did some test areas with my scraper and the stuff is coming off very easy, I do have a very strong nice bottom scaper then I will have to clean it and most likey sand the bottom from light scratches from scraping. After that if not as hot today then I will start polishing the cockpit fiberglass. Will post more pics soon.....

I need some info on the stern underwater lights, I don't want junk ones as I am going to have to drill for them, the ones I am looking at are led and range around $200-$400 each, can anyone comment on ones that last long are led and give off very stong bright light?

On that bottom problem, you might want to get some rubbing compound and compound it by hand to cut through the blue bottom paint. Also 1500, then 2000 wet/dry sand paper in a mix of about 4oz. dish detergent and 2 gallons water, will cut it too. Then polish the surface after the bottom paint is removed. That paper is very fine and shouldn't remove much gel coat.

As far as the lights...dont waste your money on the expensive ones. Looks up post by Tresvatos on here. He used the lights from oznium.com and they look awesome. I think he used 4 lights on the rear, 2 spotlights and 2 flood lights...I think most people have had better luck with the spotlights since they are brighter. I think 4 of them mounted on the transom works great. They are cheap too...like 40 bucks each.

Here is his youtube video.

I plan on adding a bunch of lights in the off season and will be making a huge project out of it. I cant quite let the cat out of the bag yet, but it will be an exciting and extensive project.
