Hello all,

Based on my experience with toasting the engine on my gsx, I thought I better get the nasty oil (tcw3 from last owner) flushed out of my xp too. Here is what I did:

Pulled the line going to the oil pump and drained the tank from there.

Pulled the line going to the crankcase and blew through it with low air pressure to push old oil into the tank so it could drain through.

Ran a few ounces of xps oil into the tank and caught it with a bottle to verify it is clear of the old crap.

Replaced he inline filter and primed the front line and zip tied it up to the new filter.

As I filled the tank back up, I could see the oil draining back into the crankcase until the line was full again. Looks like the return line is filled with the new stuff now up to about 12 in from the top of tank. (I guess running it will pump it back in as needed?)

My questions are first did I do it right? Or miss any steps? And is the crankcase gravity fed or do I need to do anything else to prime it?

Oh also I used the bleed screw at the pump to make sure it was all primed to that.

Just wonder if I did the changeover safely and am good to go. I started it for short intervals and saw plenty of smoke out the exhaust.

Thanks guys.

Yes, cant wait to get back on the water! :hurray: any way to verify both cylinders are getting oiled? I guess I could open the lever on the pump while at idle for a few seconds and see what the plugs look like right? (maybe I am just too paranoid now, lol)

dump a few oz of oil in tank, for re-a-sure-ance....

I was just going to say the same thing. Mix up your tank at 50:1, and go have fun. Anything in the injection pump will push out, and the little amount in the rotary valve won't hurt you. The pre-mix oil is just to keep things lubed as the system stabilizes.

I personally always run a little oil in the fuel after servicing the oil system. (cheap insurance in case I missed something)

Oh... and yes, the crank case will purge it self as it runs.
