I just purchased a 94 GTX that has not been used for three years. After installing a new battery, it turned over several times then stopped. the fuses are good. We jumped the soleniod and the engine turned over. Is this a bad solenoid or a bad inition switch? I would appreciate any tips on how to isolate the problem. Thanks

It can be either. Did you try to troubleshoot them?

With the description you are giving us... it could be an MPEM, or lanyard switch too.

thanks for the reply. what is the MPEM? What kind of trouble shooting techniques would you suggest?

The MPEM is the computer similar to an ECM in a car, usually either good or bad.

Since it is the easiest to trouble shoot and replace, I would start with the solenoid. You could temporally take the solenoid out of your GTI and put it in your GTX.
