intake grate and impeller 95 xp smashed lol

So i hit a rock tonight and broke my intake grate and a piece got stuck in the jet pump. there doesnt seem to be a whole lot of damage but chances are its shot so i have a brand new rebuilt pump for my 95 spx sitting in a box and im wondering if it'll fit my 95 xp? (the one i hit the rock with) Also how important is an intake grate anyway because the one that was on my machine only had 2 bars across and i NEVER get sea weed stuck like everyone else i know, so can i run without it?? Thanks alot guys

Yes... the pump will physically fit, but the impeller is probably the wrong pitch.

The grate is really just protection for large objects. But, as you found out, large hard objects will break it.

The grate on your ski helps significantly with how it handles. Those 2 bars act like fins, and give the ski "Traction" in the corners. (like tread on your car tires) Also, the part of the grate that bolts to the shoe (in the hull) it has a scoop on it. If you remove that scoop, you will find that you will have a problem with high speed cavitation.

Back in the day... on our old stand up skis (kawi JS) we would cut way the intake grate, and weld the scoop into the pump shoe.

I don't recommend doing that with your ski... but I have personally done it.

If I was in your position... I would look for a used OE grate. They are cheap on eBay.

well i ordered a used one off ebay $15 so thats good....so if the impeller has a different pitch are you saying the machine will go slower? because my 95 SPX is almost as fast an my 95 XP so i could deal with it being the same speed as that machine.

Anyone have anymore insight on the pitch of the impeller??

GEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

You got to give it more than an hour or two.

What ever the difference in pitch is, will be minimal because they are close to being the same machine. The pitch on the SPX will be a little lower, but the top speed of your XP shouldn't be drastically reduced. What you may find though, is the engine is able to reach the rev-limiter going flat out because of the slightly lower load on the engine.

If putting you extra pump in the XP is so you can ride it this weekend... then go for it. If you are thinking it will be a perminate fix... just check the impeller before doing it.

If it works it'll be a permanent fix, if it will go as fast as the spx then im happy with that! i really dont wanna spend more money on a new impeller if it wont make much difference

so i have the pump all ripped apart anndd i have a bent drive shaft! sooo I seached ebay and cant fine on tried the parts tab at the top and its obsolite, so if anyone knows where to get a shaft for a 95 xp800 i need it! i dont know what can cross reverence with this machine but i dont find anything!

google part number 272-000-021 and you will see who has it - i dont want to post any links to outside companies
good luck

so what im getting from that part number is that its the only shaft for that machine! that shaft shows 21" on a couple sites and Im seeing ebay as the place to go found one for $119
