Installing a 951 engine in a 1997 XP

Hello all,

My name is Blake and I am new here. I live in Lynchburg, VA.

I recently acquired a 1997 Sea Doo XP with no engine here locally. It has everything except an engine. I mainly bought it for the trailer...so I could use it for my 2001 GTI. However, now I will probably start looking for a dual trailer once I get this thing running...LOL

I am thinking about getting a 951 engine for it. Can this be done and what all is required to changeover to the 951 engine? Or is it easier to just get a 787 engine for it? Also, where is the best place to get a reliable turnkey engine for this (951 or 787)? What kind of price am I looking at? Keep in mind I will not have a core to send in.

I don't want to spend a fortune, but I love to tinker with things, so this will be my project. Just trying to do some research before I go knee deep in this thing.

Since I already have the 2001 GTI to ride with the family. I want this XP to be a rocket.

Thanks in advance.

Blake

Do you have everything else like electronics and stuff?

You would have to do some fiberglassing to relocate the motor mounts, and a 951 will work with the 800 MPEM if you have the single coil mag cup off the 97.5 whiter 951 (which I have)

You will need everything else though...carbs, pipe, etc along with an alignment tool.

Its wont be a quick easy project and certainly not as cheap as a 800 motor, but would make a fun ride when your done. It would be easier to part it out and by a 99...but whatever floats your boat. Just make sure to keep us posted.

Thanks for the response.

Yes, it has all of the electronics. Everything is there except the engine and carbs.

I have also been reading the other threads I just found after I posted this.

I see that you are parting out some skis. Do you have any good running 787's that are turnkey?

Thanks

Blake

I could...it actually came out of a 97 Xp so it has the right coupler and stuff. It needs a top end done on it. I also have the carbs.

You can PM me if you are interested; it wouldnt be cheap, but it would be reliable. I could prob have it ready in a few weeks.
