Hi my friend and I bought two 02 RXs together and rode for the first time today. The skis were pretty much in mint condition, all I did was change the jet pump oil on both. My ski ran great, he kept lagging behind saying his ski wasn't running right. When I tested it, it immediately had an odd rattle coming from the rear and wouldn't go over 40-45 mph max. I pulled it out and looked inside.. finding that the prop was chewing into the housing.. any ideas on where to begin with this fix or what is causing it? Is it related to the pump oil change? Prop loose? it almost appears that the prop slid back an inch and chewed up the plastic. Engine runs great tho thank god.

Sounds like the bearings gave out in the pump. If the seal was bad, and there was a little water in the bearings... it wouldn't take long for it to eat itself.

Did you pressure test the pumps after the oil change? A lot of people miss this step in the manual. You most likely pinched the O-ring when installing the cone and a pressure test would have revealed this. You will need a new pump now. I might have a good used one for you. Post some pictures of the pump internals.

I solved the water in the oil mystery.. bad fill nut. I pulled the pump and prop today.. when the housing came off, the prop came right with it (bc of the wear ring damage). The prop and shaft have about a half inch or more of play which caused the prop edges to dig into the wear ring.. the only thing I can think that would cause this is either the water in oil or.. when I put the white plastic pusher piece back in the cone it may have been the wrong way. Does that pusher stop the shaft play??
