Hi everyone, one of my RXP 05 does not want to beep neither start. It was 100% 3 weeks ago after I drove it for 1 hour on the sea and then flushed it accordingly when I came home. After 3 weeks sitting on a trailer I decided to test it and got no response. I decided to swap the battery, keys and the MPEM into the other ski and noticed that the good ski was beeping and started. I checked all fuses with multi meter and all were good. The ground on several parts of the were checked and are good. My best guess is either the ECU is bad or there is a Ghost in the Machine. Please advice how to continue. Can I swap the ECU to Check if its working?

when you push the start button do the gauges turn on?? Guessin no.
seriously check the simple things. Like the ground strap of the battery and the HOT red wire going from the battery to your black/grey box.
I'm sure you'll be asked to SWAP dess posts but.. if the gauges don't power up you don't have any power at all.
I could be wrong but if the ski has power pushing the start switch will energize the gauges displaying fuel/oil level and Hours

I still haven't receive any beeps. The MPEM, ECU and battery were swap into the other seadoo RXP 05 and it started. Need to know now how to check if the DESS is working properly, because thats the only electrical component I haven't check. All electrical plugs were spray with electrical cleaner (The gauges aren't working either). Please advice.
It's possible the DESS post need a good cleaning. Use soap and water to clean it and don't spray spray anything on it. Also check the plug connection on it too, to see if its getting a good connection. If the DESS post or lanyard isn't communicating to the ecu, it wont start of do anything.

my diag on the 4-tec's electrics is limited
you could take the dess post out of good ski to use as a test
but look into and maybe swap out a part called ' interrupter'
part # 278001992, should live on the bracket that the mpem uses
i believe this is like a power switch, a relay for the electric system

Hi Karl, thanks for your input. The DESS cap was cleaned according the precedure mentioned in some of the previous forums. The keycaps are good because I'm using the same one to start the other 05 RXP Seadoo. The DESS has also negetave ground going to it as I mentioned before.
If I jump the relay of the starter with a screwdriver, the starter will turn. I'm now charging the battery to the fullest to see if this can help, evethough this battery started the other seadoo.

Check the connections ends for any kinks or possible shorts. Use a multi meter to see if you have continuity in the wires end to end of the harness.

DESS posts fail quite a bit, normally just go dead like yours for no apparent reason but on occasion will work intermittently, those are fun.
On 4tecs, the gauges don't power up when you press the start button with the lanyard off. I wish they did, it would help in diagnosing.

You'd probably have to swap both, the mpem and ecu.
You also said you ride in salt water (the sea). If so and it's almost 5 years old, it sounds like you might have an issue with the DESS post or lanyard. When the salt crystals get into this system, it will ground out the post.
Wash your lanyard with warm soapy water. Do not use any electrical cleaning compounds on it, this may render the ROM chip inside the lanyard useless. The ROM chip magnetically connects to the post to transfer information to your MPEM that this is the correct key.
So, give your lanyard and post a nice soapy bath and give it a try. Take the lanyard in question and attempt to use it on your other ski. If they were not programmed together, you should hear the one long beep. That will at least tell you the lanyard is communicating with the MPEM.

Thanks for the replies. The lanyards are programmed for both ski's and will start both ski's. In this case I don't have any issues with the lanyards. The DESS post is not functioning properly.
My best guess is that the DESS post has a moving part like a solinoid that could have been stock in there and won't make contact. I will try to give it a good shake and hope it can work properly or buy a new Dess post.

yeah, couple years back I was working on a customers ski to clean the carbs and the post just went out. I replaced it and never told the customer. I'm sure he wouldn't have believed me if I tried to charge him for it. Just one of those things that fails all of sudden and for no reason.
