I have searched the forum and cont find the answer. I have a 2 stroke and just put an sbt motor on. Nothing coming through oiler when cranking it. I removed the oiler and found crud inside. I soked it in carb cleaner which helped get large chunks out then blasted with air with no passage. It was junked up inside. It makes sense to me that I should be able to rebuild it. Does anyone have any instructions and I know ebay has used ones for cheap but I might just end up in the same spot. Thanks again

I'm not aware of any rebuild kits or any internal part available, probably your best bet would be to buy a new one (180.99) or get a good used one from minnetonka4me. The crud is most likely caused from using an inferior oil or the wrong oil, or mixing two different oils.

should have clarified. The cud was salt water and sand that beaded up and got nasty. The ski had a brush with death at some point and the old motor got salt water in it. I am determined to try before I buy. I have been working at it for a little while and almost got the post for the gear completely out. If I do get it I think I am going to write my first how to guide and post it.

Well I have done it. I found the some teeth on the gear were damaged on mine but nothing some jb weld 9800 psi stuff cant fix. I will be making a new post on this with a how to guide and pictures. It is a puzzle. one piece releases the next and so forth until the end.

No way you should fix the gear for oil pump with JB weld!!!! If it fails the engine gets no oil!!! The gear you should get cheap from Minnetonka on this forum. Real cheap for a good one. Don't do it... Not worth it. New gear 20 bucks??? New engine 900 bucks... It's a no brainer;)

I am going to try because the broken tooth is a low stress spot. It was my fault i broke it too so the process of rebuild is still valid.

I agree, that is basically the heart of your engine and you are willing to risk that for $20.00. Just doesn't make sense to me!!

Dude, it's so not worth it, and I'll fix anything just to fix it, but to cobble a gear for the life line to your engine? That's like have an bicycle generating the electricity for your respiratory machine that is keeping you alive and the guy pedaling gets a leg cramp. Yeah, we might need to rethink that.

When I saw this earlier today I thought you were just joking so I didn't bother to answer.

This is something that you'll probably never hear me say, but I would rather see you go to premix than to do a half a** repair on your oil pump.

Hmm.

Lets see the fix then decide.

Generally speaking JB weld has no place on an engine. But i have seen worse.

Yes, that's JB patching a hole in the top of a piston.

so its the teeth on the underside of the gear that engage the piston that allows more oil. I dont think I am goin to use it but I think it is a solid fix. photo(1).JPG

I am not using it. I just think I could. I think it would work. But on the other hand your right and I got a used pump for 25$ that is already in good working condition.

Yep... as above... getting cheap can cost you that new engine. End even worse... the labor to install it.

After taking the new oiler apart for what was going to be my instructional on how to rebuild it, I feel that it is impossible to get a crud one back to 100% and as such no longer feel that it is a logical move. The piston inside gets stuck and you have to lightly sand it which if not done perfectly wouldnt seal it and send oil where it needs to be. So in short the reason no one has put out instructions to rebuild is because the pieces have to fit perfectly and with normal tools you will just make them sloppy and ruin a motor. However I still must say that JB weld on my gear is holding. i banged it a little with a hammer and it didnt break free.
