I've got a 2004 4-tec & am replacing the stock sound system.

Tried to take out the JBL marine head unit today - basically I opened the forward hatch & remove a pocket - from there I can see the back of the head unit. There a screw in the back of the head unit holding it only a metal elbow, this screw I removed.

Looks like it should just slide forward & out of the splash cover now - but something is holding it back & I can't figure out what.

Has anyone done the & has some words of wisdom?

I took off the whole thing (face plate included), there's a couple of metal pieces that poke up into the faceplate to keep it from sliding. Push those down & then it slides out.

Sometimes you need to use a special tool to remove certain units and usually that tool is included when you buy the unit. The tool is two small, thin metal pieces that slide in and release tabs that prevent the unit from coming all the way out. It sounds like that is what is happening here.
