help!!

Ok so I was replacing all the fuel lines to 98 GS and ther is one gray line that goes to the body (front right)I'm guessing it's a vent to the tank and next to it there is a clear hose that is very long (5 or 6 ft) that I pulled and wasn't connected anywhere. anyone have any clue where this hose connect to?? or is just suppose to be loose?? which I doubt but I'm new to this. thanks!

You are correct, the tube that goes to the hull is a vent, it's a check valve in the side of the hull. There is also a vent that T's off and goes to another check valve under the seat. You don't need to replace the gray tempo tubing that goes to the vents.

I just replaced all the fuel line in my '01 GS and replaced all but the vent lines.

The small tube you speak of runs down along the side of the hull back to the battery and connects to the battery vent (If your battery has one).

If your battery doesn't have a vent, then you can just let the tube lay along the side of the hull.

TheChad thanks so much for your help, now I can run it all the way to the back again since I pulled to the front, also the the valve on top of the oil tank (to the front) is suppose to be unpplugged as well? Sorry I want to make sure that's the way it is because I founf oil inside and I'm trying to find the caus of it.

Yes, on top of the oil tank you will have an oil return line that comes from the exhaust side of the engine, which goes into a T-fitting at the top of the oil tank, then you will have a small tube coming off the "T" followed by a check valve.

The check valve allows for air to be drawn into the oil tank so it doesn't get sucked in.

Does your '98 GS have a 1 piece oil tank or a 2 piece oil tank? If it's the 2 piece, then likely it's leaking from where the 2 pieces come together. My '01 GS has that problem and I have a 1 piece tank from a '96 GSX on it's way to my house as we speak.

The 2 piece tanks are known to have leaking problems at the joint. You can try to fix it, but 99% of the attempts to repair the leak are reported unsucessful. The best thing you can do is replace it with a 1 piece tank from either a '96 GSX or one several other year/models that used the same gas tank and 1 piece oil tank.

I looked and it is a 2 piece tank but I didnt see any obvious leak, I believe is a hose that goes under the motor, today I removed my carb for cleaning, just took apart the side where the inside filter is , it was dark and clean off good with carb cleaner, i hope that if I just put it together all works fine, i didnt get a carb kit yet.... any input in this part of the job would be apreciate it.
