Ive got two skis that started actting up the first one is a 96 xp when i launch it its idels fine but if i goto gas it it bogs way down if i play with the gas (gas let off gas it let off) it does come back to life ????
The other ski is a 90 sp if i run it for like a half hr it like seem like hydro locked up but theres no water in the pistons took the spark plugs out any suggetions can will help please

Dont know much about nothing

I bought a pair of skis. One I tore the motor down and figured out it was the pump. Assuming the same thing happened to both, I tore the pump out and it was the motor. I think your 90 has a problem in the pump.

Take one plug wire off the 96 and ground it. Start it up for a few seconds and listen. Then do the same for the other plug. If there is a noticeable difference then (assuming the plugs look good and you have cleaned the fuel filter) then I would look at the carbs. Sounds like one cyl is not getting enough gas. Probably the tiny filter in the carbs. Good luck

you say the pump?

whats involed with rebuilding the pump? im very mechanicly inclined what would be causing this?

The Pump

I dont know about your model but some come off really easy with 4 bolts and some are bolted and glued, not easy. This type will require a puller. Inside the pump are a couple of bearings and some seals. You will most likely need a tool to remove the impeller. You can get a kit for your pump. After you rebuild it you have pressure test it after you add the gear oil. If you take the pump off you could have a shop do it for you so you could see how its done the first time. You can google around and learn a lot. A repair manual is a great investment.
Knowledge is power.

thank you very much pulled the pump off it drained it oil smelt like burnt tranny fluid the wear ring is practicly gone so ive order that and a rebuild kit there was some play is that normal? foward and back not side to side other wise

On your way

Should be very little play normally and should spin smoothly when rebuilt.
Your motor should be free now.
Sounds like you have it under control.
