Handlebar on the handlebars?

Did Sea Doo ever offer a steering cover that has a handle built into it? My buddy used to have a Polaris that this feature and it is awesome for the kids. It gives them something to hold onto without impeding control of the ski.

Does Sea Doo have anything that would work for a '96 XP? Has anyone found an aftermarket solution or made their own?

Also, what kind of grips are folks running? I did a search and found a bunch of solutions, but I can't figure out how most of them were installed. Is it as simple as removing the old ones and sliding some new ones on?

I run ODI rogue grips. I had them on my old tigershark, I run them on my mountain bike and just put them on my Seadoo XP.

I will post some pictures tonight if I can remember. If not it will have to wait until the weekend. The trick is that you need 120mm grips to fit the bars. Not 130, Not 90. And to be honest the 120 mm grips are a bit too long and hang off the bars ever so slightly. Maybe 3-5 mm.

As for the handlebar on handlebar....Seems cool. I have never seen it on a seadoo

odi rogue grips as well, i like them and i'd use them again.
nifty idea on the handle,, but no i haven't seen it before, the pad is covering the crossbar..

if you had aftermarket bars...

stupid question.. but couldn't you just make one out of a tow rope ?

have the handle coming up over the top, and tied off around the pad? seems like it would be fairly easy to rig it up

No... seadoo (or any other PWC maker) did what Polaris did. Without a doubt... it's the best thing EVER !!!!! The official stance is that a rider is behind the driver... but kids fall off. So... unless a kid is a GREAT swimmer... then they should go in the front.

On a Polaris... that strap is truly functional. It has a metal insert, and when a kid isn't holding on... it makes a great drink holder. (lol)

So... if you need one... go buy a polaris. (first pic shows use as a drink holder)

Did you find that your grips were ever so slightly too long, that is to say if you removed the ODI end cap the clamp wouldn't be clamping completely on the bar?

Not that I ever noticed, now I gotta go check.

This is a decent idea, but it isn't rigid, so it would only work when leaning back and putting tension on the rope. When the ski slows down, the rope loses tension and the rider has nothing to hold on to.

You guys got me thinking on this, so I just grabbed a few things I had laying around and tried to make something. I dont want to modify my handle bars or foam pads so I first thought of mounting a loop by the fuel selector, but that would mean permanent holes on the deck. So this is my best 5 minute attempt at it.

I used a 5" wide U bolt and spread it apart another 1/2" and bolted it to the mooring loops. What needs to be changed is the bend should be closer to the nuts and I would like to see it 1" longer. For the little kids I think it will work, but it might be too low for the a mid sized 7-9 yr old.

I keep telling my daughter to hold on to the inside of the UMI bars but she insists on riding with the wife and wont let go of the fuel cap and fuel selector.

I didn't even notice the jet ski in those pics at first!!

Seriously though, my oldest kid is only 4 right now and can't reach that far down. She usually sqeezes her hands onto the handle bars and makes it difficult for me to drive without crushing her hands (or pinching them in the throttle).

Anyhow, great ideas so far!!!

I don't think it will pinch, you would have to reach fairly far down to get the pinch point, the kids face would be in the bar cushion at that point. Like I said, I am gonna make it so it sticks out towards the rider a bit more, maybe an inch and see how that works.

all of my little nieces hold on there also, they say it just feels,,,"safe n good",,,,no way to argue with 5,6,n 7yr old girlies!!
