had a good day riding, few qeustions

hey guys just took the skis out today for a good ride, some of you know i been putting motor in one of my 96 xps well it ran really good, one thing i noticed was it was not as smooth as the other one as far as on the water like it kinda wanted to go up so i tried to trim it down and it wont work i looked under the seat and little of water was dripping in throw the trim housing, so not sure what causes that, the other skis trim dont work either but it is positioned straight so its cool. other than that it ran great and both skis did good, i got a feeling one may need carbs cleaned it would do good full throttle for a long time and then just bog down for about 4 sec and then go woot again....... it there something in the vts that is supose to keep water from coming in, i noticed that rubber boot was wore out. is that its purpose? the vts works fine after its all dried out to.

was also thinking about rebuilding carbs and having them fresh since that is the last thing to be done on the skis, but how hard of a job is that for just a normal person? any special tools or tricks or should i take it to the shop. thanks guys i took some pics of them at the lake to will post up today it was 94 and water was prob at least 70 felt good.

thanks man i will get on that and order 2 of them so i can replace both skis, other than that they seem to run fine

use zip ties on them since it is really easy to rip the new boots with the metal clips. i had to replace two now lol

heck ya that kit that he posted up there has those other kinda clamps that would be really good i used zip ties on mine, but the boots are already so wore out they still took in some water, gunna order some new ones,

DO NOT use ANYTHING but the plastic clamps. I am a ziptie junkie, but you want a perfectly round clamp and thats why you MUST use the plastic ones. Put a little grease in the boot too to further waterproof.

Read some of the other threads on troubleshooting the VTS.

The carbs should be rebuilt, fuel selector cleaned, and fuel lines replaced on both...I wouldnt even drive it till its done.

The only real tool you need is a pop off tester (which you can make, look it up on youtube), just make sure to buy genuine Mikuni kits and needles and seats. Take your time, use lots of cleaner.

see that is were i messed up is using the zip ties, and the boots already looked worn out, i called my seadoo shop and they dont have any boots in stock but will get some soon so i am just going to order some and the clamps.

all the fuel lines were replaced just 2 years ago it looks like and the filters are both really cleam, i am guessing its just time to do the carbs again, one machine runs great and the other bogs from time to time.

So is it safe to run still till I get Carbs rebuilt or can I just clean them since they were rebuilt not to long ago?

The one that is hesitating on you I would wait to ride till you check the carbs, but if they were changed out that recently they should be pretty clean.
