ok so i have a gtx 787 i bought not too long ago.
Person who i bought it from said it was loosing power on the water and just acting up.
when i went to see it he was able to turn it on after turning it for a few and taking out plugs and drying them and putting them back on.

since then i bought it and has not turned on at all. NO SPARK both plugs.

I checked all fuses
checked all grounds
bought new coil and wires
replaced the stator (i bought a parts jetski and test it for spark before using the stator)

and still no spark.

when i put the lanyard on i get the two beeps.

if i disconnect the cdi box from the mpem i get the 4 beeps (so i know mpem is communicating with cdi)

im down to the cdi.. but i been reading for days and i found another guy had the same problem, he bought a cdi and it wasnt it.. it turned out to be the stator. is there a way i can test and know for sure its the cdi?

any help would be appreciated.

Hello doc! i finished reading that old thread where the guy had the same issue and it was the pick up coil.

i picked up a parts seadoo and first tested the spark.. there was spark! so i took out the stator (everything from the plug that sticks out the engine cover to the magneto) and put it on my gtx and still no spark..

which on is the pick up coil??

i thought i had replaced everything..

It's probably not the stator... it's the pickup coil in the cover. Did you check it when you had the cover off?

hello Doc.

im the one with the gtx and no spark.. im just getting frustrated by all this already and just wanna enjoy the water..

which one is the pick up coil? i tested my parts seadoo and it had great spark.. i took of the side enigne cover and swapped everything, i popped out the connector that sticks out the engine cover and unbolted everything there and transfered it to my gtx.. and still no spark.

when i put lanyard, i get the two beeps.

i disconnect cdi from mpem and i get the two beeps and the 4 beeps after that.

i've checked fuses, cleaned grounds, replaced stator (not sure if the pick up coil is on that) checked for bad connections.. could it be the cdi? i just dont wanna spend $300 on a cdi and not be it..

thanks for your time.

I'm not Dr Honda but I'll try to answer your question. The pickup coil is the small coil at the 12:00 position inside the mag. cover.

I know it's a PITA to remove the cover but there is a way to test the coil without removing the cover. There is a white wire that runs from the coil to the coil in the rear electric box. Take a test light put it on the white wire in the rear electric box and see if it flashes when you turn the motor over.

so theres a white wire that comes out the engine cover (stator cover) and goes to the ignition coil in the rear black box? and i can test it without having to take out the stator cover AGAIN? all i see in the harness that goes to the stator cover (this is the mag cover you are talking about correct) are all yellow/blk wires.. i highly doubt theres a white wire.. im not 100% sure but i will check it tomorrow during daylight. thanks for your help Lou

i took the harness off the stator cover. there are 3 solid yellow on the bottom, a solid black, a black with some yellow and a yellow with some white.. is that the one im supposed to test?

I had the same problem. The white wire comes from the front EBOX, NOT straight from the mag housing. Open up the rear ebox, and there is a white wire clipped onto your ignition coil, pop it off and shove a probe from test light in there and ground it to the battery, if it flashes when turning over then you have power from your stator/pickup...then most likely it is your ignition coil in the back...i had exact same problem, and just fixed it...due to bad ig. coil, and bad grounds!!!

Lou correct me if im wrong here...i learned this from u!!!!

I'm not 100% certain, you didn't say what year GTX you have, but I have a 96GSX with the same motor, should be similar, that's the way it is on mine. You might want to PM Dr Honda and see what he thinks.

Added, I don't have time to refer to the wiring diagram, but yes it is possible that it does go through the front EBox and then to the rear. But I'm pretty sure its a direct connection. There's a wiring diagram in the service manual.

Yes, sorry I was reffering to my xp, may not be same on the gtx, but it goes from the mag housing to the front box, the out via white wire in a bundle of others to rear ebox...

i replaced the coil and wires.. so im pretty sure thats not the problem.. unless the one i bougth is also bad! fml.

this is a 1999 gtx rfi.. but i think they swapped a 1996 gtx 787 on it with all its electricals. this one has the white box up front.. not the updated black ecu that for example a 1999 xp would have.

i tested the white wire that comes from the front ebox to the coil on the rear ebox and im not getting power to that white wire when i crank the engine. i bought a parts jetski and tested for spark before swapped out the stator (pick up coil and magneto) and still no spark. i get communication between mpem and cdi (4 beeps if i unplug cdi from mpem)

how can i test the cdi?

well.. i got someone to let me test the cdi before i buy it... its not the cdi either.. so far, i replaced the coil and wires, stator with pick up coil (securely attached to mag cover with two bolts), tested the cdi (its not it) i get the 4 beeps if i disconnect cdi, i get the 2 beeps when i put lanyard on, i tested white wire in rear box and i get no current when i crank the engine. im running out of ideas here. i've checked and resodered about a dozen wires.. still no spark. anything else you think i should look at? i got the schematics tonight and im going to locate any and all wires that are involved with ignition.. and test them.. after that im burning this thing lol.

the crank sensor pulses the coil, and the injectors

if you have an rfi motor in it like you say a couple posts back, from now on, you should state engine year and model,

if you have only 3 yellow wires and 1 black wire in mag cover, its for an rfi, no pickup plate, then you better have an rfi motor, 1 t/body and 2 injectors and a mpem in front of ski

update:

apparently the electronics on this 1999 rfi are from an older ski (perhaps a 1996 gtx) i printer off the wiring diagram, traced a ground wire that was not grounded.. from the metal plate up front inside the white cover back to the coil in the black box. after taking the entire harness apart i wired that ground and BAM i have spark.. its very weak spark but i think i found my problem. i will be cleaning things up, re-wrapping, and getting some stronger grounds, hopefully that will solve my problem for good.

thanks for all the help everyone.
