Hello,
I bought a 2006 GTX..with 5 hours on it...checked out fine w dealer. A millionairess had it stored for 5 years. LOOKS BRAND NEW...

Upon launching..timing chain snapped..total write off..however the dealer and Bombadier ate the 3500.0 dollars in parts..so that turned out good.

Last saturday I helped some drunk boaters get off a sand bar where they ran aground...when I got back on mine I fred it up and heard grinding..appears oyster shells or parts of em went through the impellor..5 mph WAS ALL I COULD GET till another ski towed me home...upon reaching the dock I was up to 20 mph , dropped the 4 bolt protector and cleared all the crap out of the impellor and though it ll run up to 50 plus...the edges of the impellor are roughed up which I imagine..like my old outboards mean s cavitation and reduced performance and some vibration. I can deal with it this summer..if some the debris got into the water jet pump..what are the parts in there that could be ate up...another im or pro pellor I m sure, right ?

When I replace the impellor, if that s it..do they make stainless..are there such things as speed props..variable pitch...like boats ?

Thank you all ....

You can go with a different impeller with a different pitch and it will help the performance. Around the impeller is a plastic ring called the wear ring. The wear ring is designed to do just that...wear. It is plastic and will absorb the impact from hard things like rocks and shells. So when you suck in debris, the wear ring gets damaged. Usually the impeller doesnt get too banged up.

You can swap out your impeller, but more than likely the wear ring is what is damaged the most.

Yea there different pitches and your wear ring would prob need to be replaced as well it is prob chewed up as well as the impeller

I would suggest NOT upgrading the wear ring to something harder than plastic. I say this as, you need something to be able to "give"...

Nothing wrong with a SS Impeller, but for sure if you do that, you want the wear ring to be able to take abuse.

Thank you all..I need to pull up an article that s explain s just how the internal s of these pwc's a s work..I ve been a hot rodder, boat guy since I was like 16 but due to an ex wife a pwc I all I can sneak under the radar..top speed for this was like 66-68 ..what could increase this..pitch of prop, like a boat correct...
My VW turbo has been tuned up to 303 whp..are there similiar kit s out there for pwc s ..for after warranty operation..soft ware methanol injection ?

Again..thank you all so much..very nice of you all...to repond so timely....

I would like to know you got SeaDoo to eat the repair job for the timing chain. After 5 yrs i would think it's out of the warranty period even with only 5 hrs on it.

The manager here locally, who endorsed the ski s reliability, wrote a letter to the Corp. guy she knew indicating exactly what happened..and your right..it was like 4 plus years oughtta warranty but she know s my situation and appealled to the powers that be..they sold her the parts at cost..she picked up the differance..the lady I bought it from split the labor with me 1068.00 that s how it went down. I m very happy with both my local dealer and the Company..cost me 500.00 I paid 6200.00 with trailor...It was 6.5 weeks to get it back but....

w/o improving the oem air intake a taller prop would be a waste of time and money. keep it stock....or at very most a 14/17.

Don't be skeered of an SS ring.

I'm a happy SS ring user for over 4yrs now.

C'mon....just stay outa the rocks.

I will agree that over-all a SS ring is a wonderful thing. However,,, if something DOES enter the intake, (and it will happen), something has to give.

It can be the stick you sucked in, the ring or the impeller. If it si the stick, great,,, you are good to go. But if it is a rock and it jambs up, chances are you will damage both the ring and the impeller...

Just my thoughts...

Thank you all so much...here on the MS coast you can go from a 30 ft deep channel to 6 inches in no time..oyster beds everywhere..ie stay in the channel...while in the back bay and the river is pretty safe. Again thank you.

Will running the damaged wear ring and roughed up imp.cause any problem s other than reduced speed and a bit of vibration? cavitation ?

Ya ll been very cool...

The only way you could damage anything beyond what is already damaged is, if the impeller is bent and allows for a vibration. It could affect the shaft seal and "shake" the engine in a manner it is not designed to be shaken. Meaning,,, if it is shaft vibration it could loosen nuts and bolts, cause additional wear on the engine and things to this matter.

But you would know as the vibration would be pretty noticeable..

Thank you sir...all I really notice is a decrease in speed and not as aggresive acceleration....and from what I ve read ..with prop edges roughed up...and the wear ring worn..the water flow is not is not nearly as "efficient ". I quess aerodynamics and hydro dynamics are very similiar with respect to surfaces having to be "just so" to remain at optimum performance.

Again thank you sooo much sir.
