I got a deal yesterday. Well atleast I think it was haha. Picked up a Double trailer "black painted", with easy lube axles, tool box, new lights, new tires, and new winches. Over all in really good shape and it only cost me $250. Will work out very well for me next season for my 95xp and my 01 GTX I'll pick up before the end of year. Will post pics later.

Wow.... You stole it !!!

Around here... a double trailer is hard to come by.... and most of the time... people want 80% of new. I thought I got a deal on mine a few years back. I paid $500, and it needed tires. (In good shape otherwise)

Wow Doc - sounds like you got a good deal too. God shape sounds awesome. :D

wow .. i freaking wish! I went looking yesterday for a good used double. Up here I'm not going to pay ANY less that $1000 on a double... if I want a decent one that can actually tow a couple of the 4tecs (heavy pigs they are) I'm into an easy $1500 minimum (probably will need lights and tires at 1500)!!

That's a good deal.

Bmann06, look on CL in the 1000 Islands (Watertown), I found a couple double trailers late in the summer for $750 in Alexandria Bay. Ended up with a galvanized in good shape. Had to replace bunk carpet. In my area, Rochester NY you can buy a new double trailer for $1500.

Thanks dugout, I will definatley scour the CL in upstate NY. Although I not 100% sure how to import a trailer in Canada. Boats/skis is easy. If anyone has info on importing a trailer into Canada from US could you please chime in. BTW sorry OP if I'm kinda hijackin' yer thread!

Importing into Canada is easy - provided you have the title to the trailer and the trailer has both the VIN decal and the
decal that advises the tire and load size for this trailer and is readable. I cannot stress that enough...:banghead: Having the
"insurance papers" or "tags" is not enough. If you have the title and a bill of sale and the trailer is decal-ed 100% you are good to go...except for the absolutely stupidest "tax" known to mankind.

Get a load of this - IF the trailer you are importing is 15 years old or newer - that is to say built from now-Oct 1997
to 2012 you will have to pay a $218 Registrar of Imported Vehicles (RIV) "fee" (TAX!!!!!) and have it "inspected". In BC Canadian
Tire does the inspection (inspection fee is included in the RIV TAX. They basically walk around the trailer and say "Yep that's a trailer"
and sign the paperwork. Canadian Tire also collects the $5 per tire "environmental fee" so if you have a spare on the trailer take it off
before you go in.

But - if the trailer is over 15 years old (from date of manufacture) - the RIV TAX does not apply. Yes you heard that correct. You can bring across the biggest piece of crap and they don't care. It can be rusted out with bald tires and they don't care. They only care about collecting the tax.

SO - if the trailer you find is 1997 or older and it's a good deal or fixable - it's a bonus - otherwise factor in the $218 fee to your purchase price. The RIV application paperwork is also completed by the Border guys.

Any other questions let me know. I've imported a few...hence the rant...

Yah our government never ceases to amaze me. So i'll definately have to go in the 97' or newer range, if I pay the damn RIV fee do I also have to pay the tax on the purchase price on bill of sale?

Yep you have to pay the HST or PST/GST (whatever is in force in Ontario) on the price of the trailer atthe border. The $218 RIV TAX
actually includes the HST etc so it might be a bit more or less. In BC we pay a 12% HST. The RIV TAX you actually pay on-line
to the Feds. A word on the purchase price on the bill of sale.....I myself do NOT fudge this price. The Border can and have contacted
the seller to confirm purchase price (it's wise to include a phone number of the seller on the bill of sale) and they will also ask you
for a copy of the craigslist ad (sorry I forgot this) to verify the selling price. If it's a lot less than the advertised price be prepared
to justify it. As I said I do NOT fudge this purchase price like some have been known to do as I do not want to be flagged everytime
I come back into Canada. The few $$ I might save is not worth it.

By the way I see you're in Belleville. I grew up in Bancroft and played hockey against a lot of Belleville teams. Beautiful area (if
you can handle the blackflies and mosquitoes in the summer! :)

Thanks a ton for the info! To the US it is .. shit I'll buy new down there. Even if the gov't rapes for the taxes at border I'm still waaay ahead. I live in town so bugs aren't bad. At cottage bout 20mins north ... yah it can get a bit buggy. Nothing a cuban and scotch can't fix though!

Cheers thanks again for info!

I didn't know many Cubans ands Scots lived in Belleville!

i picked up a roadmaster double trailer that had been sitting out in the sun for a long time for 550. i've replaced the bunk carpet, and the wheels and tires so far. it could use some paint work but its OK for now and pulls straight down the road.

before that one came up, there was a galvanized trailer with a rear hitch listed for 550, but it was gone before i could get there, and before that most everything was overpriced singles or the same shop selling new aluminum doubles for 1800.

i really like the new roadmasters that are two trailers that can be connected together as a double or towed separately as singles.

i need single trailer! someone find me a deal :) will drive few hours max to go get it :) doesnt have to be in best of shape!

Was that made from a pop up camper frame? I am not kidding around, it was a home made trailer for sure, which isnt a problem. We are going to make a 4 place trailer eventually. Just need to find the time. Those tires look a little small for a double trailer though. What are the tires rated to carry? I would probably just beef up tires, besides that looks like you should be fine. Cant beat the price either.
