gas in flywheel cover

Hi Guys,

I have 2 1990 Seadoo SP's with Rotax 587 engines. I pulled one out of winter storage and cranked it over a couple of times and the starter broke. When I pulled the starter, about a cup or 2 of raw gas flowed out of the starter hole. I took off the flywheel cover and it looked and smelled like gas had been there for a while. The ignition module front rubber cover had peeled off itself and was sitting in the bottom of the flywheel housing.

My guess is that the fuel pump failed which let gas be sucked into the manifold and then collect in the bottom of the flywheel housing.

Have you guys ever heard of this? That is my best guess but please let me know if my theory is way out in left field.

Thanks,

Fango

Welcome to the forum. To me it sounds like it is leaking past the crank seals. But the initial problem would be in the carbs. When was the last time they were rebuilt? Try posting your question in the 2-stroke PWC section for more assistance.
