I just bought a 2001 GTX RFI form a friend and we took it out today for the first time. I topped off the gas tank and the bars on the gas gauge were all lit. We rode rode it for 3 hours and decided that it was time to go home. The seadoo shut off about ten feet from the ramp. The gas gauge was showing 4 bars, but when I took a look at the gas tank, it was empty. I have read many posts here concerning gas gauges not reading, but this one is reading, just not accurately. It displaying too much gas. How do I fix this issue? I also found a tiny crack at the top of the oil reservoir. I tried to melt the crack together, but it started leaking again. I'm thing about lightly sanding the top and putting Poly Liquid Nails on it. Do you guys think this fix would work? It runs awesome other than these issues.

Fuel Float

WOW 3 HOURS ON A TANK OF GAS. I'm lucky to get 2 hours.

Anyway check the fuel float, its inside the baffel, the old style is like a solid plastic with corks in both ends, its very common for them to loose boyancy.

You can replace it with a newer type that is hollow molded plastic, about $13-15. The new design is much improved.

Also are you using the reserve? There should be 3gals. left after you run out of the main. Should be enough to get you to a dock.

I put $10 of gas after running out and I noticed that the tank looked like it had more than $10 worth of gas in it. How do you use the reserve? I was looking for a switch.

Reserve

There are two fuel pickups inside the baffel the main, which is the left position of the fuel selector is higher in the baffel, the reserve which is the right position of the selector the pickup is at the bottom of the tank. The center position (mine is up, some are down) is off.

Run on main (left position), when the ski starts sputtering turn the selector to the right position and you should have about 3gals. left.

"Back in the day", a lot of motorcycles didn't even have a fuel guage, you just depended on the reserve.

Wouldn't it show less gas, not more?
