Fuel Hose Clamps

I have 3 questions as I am replacing fuel lines. I started using screw worm drive clamps and they worked fine, until I got to the fuel valve. Not enough room. I noticed the old clamps were much lower profile and fit in. They were put on with some type of tool. I need that tool and clamps. Where can I get the clamps and tool?

Next, how do you determine the correct tightness on the clamps on the fuel lines going to/from the fuel tank. I noticed that the ends are plastic and would compress with too much tightness, however too loose and they would leak.

Lastly, after getting all this complete, how important is it to have a pressure test performed?

1). What size clamps are you using? You may be using too big of a clamp.

2). Snug good and hand tight without a rachet handle. Do not apply enough to warp the nipple.

3). If you check and cleaned your check/pressure release valves and tightened properly and the seal is still good on your gas filler cap, a pressure check probably isn't necessary. However, if you can do it, it is good peace of mind.

I know I'm going to get some disagreement here, but I have always used, high quality 1/4" cable ties. I think they grip better and are a lot easier to put on and take off. If you go this route be sure to get good ones, and use the black ones, they're UV resistant. I bought mine at Graybar Electric, Panduit brand.

I did my 96 GTI 3 years ago and the cable ties are holding up fine.

That is what I did on mine here recently. I tried tugging on them and they wouldn't budge. The original clamps that were on there I could pull hard and they would start to slide off. If they dont work its an easy fix so figured I'd try it.

I was going to suggest that because I used the ties on the small lines on the carbs. Didn't know others had considered using them on the larger lines.
