1997 GTX getting started

Thanks guys. I would think 25’ is enough for both jetskis.

I still need to get the other one running. On that one the seat latch is broken, so I have to figure out how to get in there.

With 25’ you will probably be a little short to do 2 machines. I would say roughly 15 to 18’ per machine. If you’re going to try and stretch it so that the roll may be enough for two, leave the grey lines for the vent from the fuel tank but I still don’t think 25’ will do two

Ok. I’ll get the roll and see how much is leftover after I do the first jetski. If I have to buy a second roll of fuel line I’m sure I can find a use for the leftovers.

I also finally got a chance to look at the hours. The jetski has 147 hours. Not sure if that’s a lot for a 28 year old jetski or not. It seems like that is low hours

Anything wrong with using Quicksilver PWC oil in it? It’s seems to be the most readily available in my area.

147 hours is not to bad for a jet ski, properly maintained with the correct oil I would say they are good to 250 hours possibly even more. Without looking back through the thread, have you compression tested it? 150 is perfect, 120 is time for rebuild, and they need to be within 5 percent of each other. Is this a 787? If so it needs to be full synthetic API-TC oil, has to be API-TC for a long life. If I recall correctly the quick silver does not meet that standard. Triax, Mystik JT-4, there’s one Lucas that does, and of course XPS does.

I looked online and Walmart has a decent deal on the Mystik JT-4. Maybe I’ll try that.

I have not done a compression test. I did take it out for a quick test ride. It runs great and has good power. I need to change those fuel lines before I run it anymore.

We own a small marina and the jetski has been parked on a trailer right next to the boat launch while I’ve been working on it. It was too tempting not to give it a little test run.

It idles around 1350 rpms. The slowest it will go is just barely sufficient for the no wake zone before getting out to the lake. It’s been so long since I’ve ridden a jetski that I don’t remember if the last one I rode was the same way.

Speedo doesn’t work. I read some threads about that and need to investigate further.

Idle is good. When your changing brands of oil drain the oil tank and lines. Most will say to change the oil filter which I normally do, but it’s just a fine mesh screen in them, if you spray a little simple green in it, spray it out with garden hose and then compressed air it will be fine as long as you don’t break the screen.
