Must be the post holiday catch up broken toy syndrome but the forum is really slow, or maybe it's just me. I checked at the bottom of the page and there's 812 people in the forum as I write this. Is that an unusually high number and could it cause the forum to slow to a crawl?

Always busy at the beginning of the season, then the rush of people buying skis that "Just need a starter", and then again as the northern states start to warm up... Then we get the "How do I winterize my ski..." season....

So what do you guys do during the winter ... work on those resto projects?

The forum shouldn't be slow. I will check into this in the morning. We are on a dedicated server so we aren't sharing bandwidth.

jimmaki Maybe I read your post wrong. Are you saying at the time you started this thread "the forum is slow". Did you mean the forum is slow to respond due to technical problems or just members just aren't asking a lot of questions?

Lou

I read it like you Lou, that not many were here kind of thing.

It cleared up around 10am yesterday morning so maybe it was just a temporary overload (lots of people uploading pictures, video, etc.), Monday morning rush after a holiday weekend, or your host may have had a problem or was just doing maintenance on the backend.

Navigation was very slow, clicking on menu links was unresponsive for anywhere from 20-45 seconds. Two attempts at posting resulted in an error and lost the contents of the message and wouldn't recover with a back page.

I tried some other sites at the time and they were working normally fast so I don't think it was an issue here.

Technical problems. That's why I conjectured it might just be a Monday morning after a holiday weekend overload. It cleared up about an hour later so it was probably a host problem. I noted there were 800-900 simultaneous users on the forum at the time, but I didn't know if that was higher than normal or not. If the host level loads or moves the forum to another server when things get busy that could cause a temporary slowdown. Admin says this forum is on a dedicated server so it was more likely a hardware failure on the backend or maintenance issue.

I was flying for 6 hrs yesterday and using the in-flight wifi via Tapatalk. It was a tad slower than the norm but I assumed it was because I was at 34,000 feet.

Airline wifi bandwidth is about what most home users have (10mbps), only it's shared by the entire plane. Speed depends on how many onboard are connected and what they're doing. Electromagnetic waves travel pretty fast and don't take much time to travel 34,000 feet. (approx. 1 billion feet/sec) Transoceanic flights use satellite which is another story.

I use in-flight wifi all the time. Some days are horrible, others are surprisingly good. When I fly to London it cost 19 dollars and works well enough. With having.

International flights using 2ku satellite technology are getting so fast you can watch tv or movies on your iPhone (70MBPS). Whether or not it will be affordable for most passengers is another matter. They sometimes split off some bandwidth for just email and texting at a lower price however.

In flight headed to Chicago and the GOGO system is a bit slow today,,, But I am not complaing, I'm just happy to have it.. LOL
