I recently purchased a 96 GTI with a 717 in it. Didn't take much to get it running. It had sufficient hesitation from 1/4 throttle to about 3/4. Pop off is around 55psi,looks like a 112g spring, on both carbs and pilot is the stock 67.5.
After major carb cleaning and changing all the fuel lines and cleaning everything in between. syncing the carbs and adjusting the low idle I took it out for a lake test.
It still hesitates not nearly as bad. I'm thinking of lowing the pop pressure and seeing if that helps.
During my lake test I chopped it to check the plug color I touched the Flywheel cover and noticed it was almost too hot to keep my hand on it. The engine was cool and I verified it is pumping water. So I hopped on my 94 SPX,657, and buzzed it around for awhile to see if the cover gets hot. It didn't and now has me concerned about the Gti.
Plugs are a nice chocolate brown so it's not running lean.
So it it normal for the flywheel cover to get hot?
Could this be something to with the hesitation/timing ?
