again I am just learning, I noticed that the air box is always unclipe. I pull it tight against the carborators then clip the clip closed on the top front of the box. I cant see it but i can feel it. After I ride awile I stop and check and it is sitting wide open and unclicked. I am sure this is not the way it is make to work. I do notice that the engine noise is much higher when the box is open. what causes this to come undone? How do I fix this problem?
Thanks

98 limited xl total rebuilt engine.

Nope... the airbox shouldn't be opening on it's own. The engine vibrate a lot, so you will need to figure out why the clips are so warn out.

how many clips

I can only "feel" one clip and it is on top. Are there others? Does this box do anything but quiet the sound of the engine?

Mine has six clips, two on top and bottom one one each side. I believe the cover for the air box regulates the pressure to some degree as all adjustments that are made to the fuel system are instructed to to so with the cover on (not just flame arrestor).

ON the xp limited 98 there is 6 clips holding the air box on? I have a 94 sp that has I think 6 plastic clips, but the xp has 1 metal clip on the top an looks like room for another on the right top. How do I keep this think on? After it revs for a short time the box comes loose and drops down. Any ideas?
