Fiberglass work

I can catch them with a fingernail, I have not tried a dental probe for depth. I will try to wet sand first.

They cover about 8 ft on the blue field of the hull on the port side only. That is the side that faces the afternoon sun when it is on the lift. There is no pattern like a load stress crack. I will try to get more pix this week.

I just can't tell much detail from the original picture. Several years ago a friend of mine had a Mariah that was exhibiting similar gelcoat issues, and we had some success with sanding them out (very carefully)...but I don't know if yours and his are the same problem.

Here are some more pix I took today:

Here is the worst section:

You can zoom these pictures out to see the detail. These are about 1/4 inch long. There are a few that go to 1/2 inch long.

I do not have anything to measure depth, but I can catch them all with a fingernail. If you expand the photos, it looks like you can see white inside the cracks. I do not know if that means it is all the way through the blue gelcoat or if it is wax residue or ...

We are pulling the boat on the 11th so my mechanic can service the out drive and I will try to wet sand it to see what we get.

Thanks to all for the help.

That is like...one of the weirder things I've seen on a boat hull...in 35+ years of boating. Wet-sanding will reveal a lot about this. I suspect the white residue you see in the cracks is indeed wax/polish.
