exhaust manifold

I did what you suggested murjiim, I got a fully threaded one and cut it to the length I wanted. On mine, and I think all 717's there are 3 bolts and one stud (the right forward one). The length is crucial on the one in the stud location for the purpose of getting a nut on it. I "converted" my problem location into a stud rather than a bolt. As mentioned before, since the threads were boogered up I drilled the receptor hole deeper and threaded it. At the Home Depot by us they had a "set" that was packaged together. It included the proper sized drill bit and tap. If I remember correctly the problem location on my manifold was the right rear. The flange on the manifold sticks out pretty far and I could actually drill through to the bottom so there is probably 3/4" to 1" of area where the new stud is in place. The exhaust bolts have to be torqued pretty tight on the manifold so you don't get an exhaust/water leak, so I wanted as much contact area in the manifold as possible. Good luck!!!

Again usually the issue is not torquing the 4 on top AND the suport bolt in a sequence. Of course if the bolts have backed out many times the holes are prob reamed and rethreading it to the next size is about the only choice. Good rubber mounting grommets with washers are also critical here...if they are beat that can be part of the problem.

I fix a few of these every summer....

the rubber grommet is in good shape..no cracks or fraying.
i will go exchange the bolt and trim it to the size i want.
i will monitor these over the season and see what happens.
i was torquing the 8 bolts (exh mani to engine bolts) in the sequence outline in manual...didnt have syntheic grease though. but i had to go over it twice...is that enough or should i check them again?

yea i will...well i gotta go easy on the machine...need to do proper break-in so not much trouble..
will post pics once i get that bolt in later today
