Anyone know how I can troubleshoot the error code:

P0335 ENGINE SPEED SIGNAL NOT DETECTED

It is on a 2000 GTX RFI... How does the engine speed get relayed to the RFI control?

Thanks in advance!

David...

On the RFI engine, there is a crank position sensor. It could be bad, or a wire between the CPS, and the MPEM/Fuel controller can be bad. BUT... I would probably remove the CPS from the engine, and check it for metal filings. The starter will wear away at the ring gear, and the bits of metal can interfere with the sensor working.

I have a sensor if you need it, but its prob what the Dr. said....shavings.

I took out the sensor and there were a couple very small shavings on the sensor... I cleared the code and put it back in the water... Still would not go over 3,300 RPM's... I wanted to run it for more than 5 minutes to see if any other codes came up and then it spooled up and ran fine. Then about 10 minutes later it was back to only a 3,300 RPM max. I scanned the codes again and it came back with

p0336 Engine speed sensor sync error
p0335 Engine speed signal not detected

I assume at this point the crank position sensor is going bad right? Is there a way to know if it it the crank position sensor or the wiring to the MPEM?

Also how much do you want for your sensor?

Thanks in advance.

I replaced the sensor and that did not solve the problem. Is there a way to check the wire running from the sensor to the MPEM? The problem is random and comes and goes... Seems to me that it is a connection somewhere...
