Economical run speeds and approximate range? 2000 GTX

I just purchased a 2000 GTX Milenium Edition with the stock 951 motor. I've seen some of the fuel consumption charts that have been floating around on here as well as other sites, but each one of them are based on WOT. I've never seen anything that mentions what the 'economical or cruise' engine rpm is. Is there any such thing for these Rotax engines?

Can anyone give me an idea what the economical RPM 'sweet spot' is for this engine or general rules of thumb?

Thanks in advance

I've ran 951's for a awhile and although right now they are DI's and have better fuel economy, I've found
you can cruise a long time at around 25 mph. But doing spurts of 90 degrees or 180's can really suck up the
gas, even at lower speeds. I myself prefer cruising and looking around, enjoying the water etc and average
25 mph was pretty good.

But I would prepare yourself for a larger fuel bill with a carbed 951 GTX. The 98's and 99's were (IMO) awful
on gas as the weight of the machine was more. My wife had a 98 GSX with a 951 and it was around 400 lbs empty
and cruised forever on a tank. The 98/99 is about 650 lbs and the 2000 might be a bit more. That extra 250+
lbs means a lot.

according to seadoosource.com:
98 GSX L weighs 523
99 GSX L weighs 528 - also the last yr for carb GSX
2000- GSX RFi weighs 644 w/ a 787

4-5k is a good cruise.

i'm with the rodent on this one... keep the rpm's in the 4-5k range and you'll do 'better' but nothing spectacular...

there isn't really a sweet spot... at least that i've found...if there is one, its around 4500..

if I go fast, i use up a lot of gas and make about 55 miles on a tank
if I go slow, i use up a lot of gas and make it about 66 miles... better, but it takes me longer to get there and back

the only way to truly improve the gas mileage is to tow the ski behind a boat, using your boat buddies gas...

you can experiment but what I think you'll find is moderate improvement/decline in fuel economy based on riding style...

you will use less fuel if you stay away from WOT.... and if when taking off from a stop, its not a WOT take off... in general if you cruise in the 35mph range, you'll do better than in the 50+ but either way, your fuel economy will suck ...

You could just buy this new hybrid, I hear it may be a limited run though.
