Dropped a part under the engine

OK I'm not the only one this has happened too. I can't be.

I'm replacing the fuel system on my new to me 95 GTS. I was taking the throttle linkage and all those associated parts off the carburetor. Naturally I dropped that little half wheel that the throttle cable hooks too and naturally it's somewhere under the engine. :facepalm:

I can't find the damn thing.

I've tried fishing around with a magnetic light but I don't think the piece is magnetic. Is there anyway to get this thing out without pulling the engine? Maybe tip the whole thing backwards and run water through it hoping that will dislodge it?

The whole project was going along quite well up until this point. Help!!!

pick the trailer with the ski from the hitch side and get it up as high as you can and shake it should move/ slide back.

worst case tip it up on the trailer, pull the drain plugs and run water from up at the storage compartment

I lost a battery bolt under the engine and tipping the ski up and shaking it didn't do anything for me. I used the opposite side of a wet vac (blowing air instead of sucking it) and just reached my arm under the engine until I finally could grab it.

If it is a circlip are you SURE that it is in the bilge? I have never and I mean never ever had a circlip land in the bilge. I keep 10 of them on hand because they shoot across the garage and I find them while putting up Xmas lights.. SERIOUSLY.

I use the compressed air path or the shop vac reverse. I HATE those things and have despised them for nearly two decades.

Oh.. It is a throttle lever.


That should appear via what everyone has already said. sometimes just tipping it up and giving the bilge a good rinsing turns up all sorts of battery fasteners, plastic wingnuts and 8mmx1.25 bolts and nuts with corresponding washers.

haha, all the tools and bolts love the bottom of the ski for some reason.

put the plugs in and drive around the block a few times if lifting the ski up doesnt help.. works every time :thumbsup:

sockets, bolts, etc... I lost a rave spring under there not too long ago. My favorite tools for the seadoo's is my borescope & retrievers. I have used them for that more times than I care to admit.....

The thing is, most of the stuff is pretty high grade stainless so it wont get with a magnet. That always bugged me.

I think we should start a pool. Take any member, have them tip their ski on a trailer and the other members who can guess the nearest type and size of part along with tools wins.

Let's see.. the items to pick from would probably look like this.

1. trimmed ends from zip ties probably leads all numbers,
2. 6mm nylocks/allen head stainless fasteners (10mm head/5mm allen)
3 8mm fasteners - specifically the ones that hold the pre-951 starters in (I however mastered the art of taping sockets to extensions on starter swaps)
4 13mm sockets
5 10mm sockets
6 Battery nuts (the square ones)
7 Broken-off exhaust mounting bolts for tuned pipe on 787/951 models - (see 8mm fastener)
8 The black sliding latches for the airbox on the 94-95 models (93 XP also)
9 Plastic Wingnuts

omg thats so funny !

i was going to say compressed air, and while your there look for all of my 10mm socket's

in the future... stuff an old towel under your "workspace" between the hull and the engine, so when something falls next time, it will fall onto the towel.

I wish I had a bore scope because this thing is GONE. I have no idea where it went. I tipped the ski up as high as it would go, ran water through it and it didn't come out. Zip tie scraps and one of those things for the air box came out though!

Any suggestions as a place to buy another? Haven't checked with my local dealer yet.

Thats a really good deal. I think I paid $250 for my snap on, but that was many years ago, before they became available in other stores.
Does it have an LED light on the camera tip, & is it dimmable ? Mine drains the batteries if it sits in the case for a month or so, so I usually remove them when I store it.

The only problem I've found it has a video output, it's hard to find anything with a video input anymore. But I've not needed a larger screen.
