I am thinking of buying a 97 GTX and wondered if the dual carb set up can be downgraded to use the 717 intake & single 40 mm SBN-I. I would trade off 5 H.P. for better fuel economy & the simplicity of a single carb. I read Group K found no real disadvantage to single vs. Dual carbs on the 717. Would a single carb require boring to a true 40mm? Would a single carb pump enough fuel at high RPM?
