Do I need to remove my battery to charge it?

I have a 4-tec sportster & will be adding a deep cycle battery for my electronics.

Wondering what size to get - if it's safe to charge it IN the engine compartment after removing the cables I'll get the biggest one. I could invest in some quality charging cables & hook the charger up "remotely" if that makes sense to anyone.:coolgleam:

Forgive me if that's a ludacris question :o

You can charge it in the boat. I leave mine in there year round. I have dual batteries both hooked to a combo switch. With the swith in the off position, nothing can back feed through the boats electrical system and fry anything. I would recommend having some type of disconnect if you want to leave it all hooked up while charging.

As far as battery size, i just got a deep cycle the same size as the starting battery. They are both marine 24 series.

For a way to chrage it remotely, i installed a standard 12 volt cigarette lighter type plug in the storage area. It is hooked to both batteries. I can use it for the air pump to blow up tubes and I can charge through it. I use a die hard charger that came with the lighter plug for charging through it. For the charger and the plug to install on the boat i spent a whopping $40 and it works awesome.
