depth finder on the fritz

I kind of remember reading something about this a while ago. The depth finder was working fine. I started up the boat and backed off the trailer. I then left the boat idling and spinning in cirles for about 5 minutes while the wife parked the truck and I did some stuff on the boat. When I straightened back out the depth finder never worked right again all day. Kept reading 160 ft deep and jumping all over the place. I started and stopped the engine many times through out the day of boating but it never came back.

I can almost remember reading something about spinning in circles and screwing up the depth finder. Any thoughts on this?

I haven't heard of that one. Try shutting it off and turning it on again. That might help.

I turned if on and off probably 6 or more times throughout the day, no change. I thought I remember someone else having this happen after spinning in circles. Maybe not.

I also had a Lorane fish finder/gps/etc installed. This was the first weekend out with it running. Is it possible this messed up the boat depth finder?

Hmmmm

Robert,

I wonder if they both operate at similar frequencies(maybe 200khz) if they would interfere with each other?

Did you try shutting off the Lorane unit?

Man, I have no idea, that's not a bad idea though. I'm wondering if when they intalled they ran some wires to close to one another and I'm getting some kind of RF interference. I'm going out this weekend so I'll try running the boat without the Lorane first to see what happens.
