After doing a compression test today & firing the engines...I came back to find the 1 way check valve on my oil tank was leaking all over the place. I cleaned it up with towls best I could but now it looks ugly down in there...it was really clean. So is it safe to use a mild detergent/citrus cleaner & spray small amounts of water to clean this up...or do I just leave it alone?

i use the purple castrol super clean. soak it good, let it sit for like 5 minutes then flush it good with water.

Any auto parts store will have it. Also, places like Target, and Wal-Mart have it.

FYI... That's what I use in the shop also. The other "Purple" cleaners just don't have the same power.

And I can spray this stuff throughout the entire engine bay? Like on the tops of the motors etc.?

Yep.

I hose the entire bay down... give it a few minutes, and hit it with the garden hose. Grease, and nasty will just slide off. (you don't need a pressure washer)

Oh... if you have hot water on your garden hose, it will make it work even better.

yes i use a degreaser in there, leave it 5 mins and jet wash. then if theres some sitting water hoover it with a wet vac. comes up brand new.

Not to get off topic but parrothd I noticed you have a 1995 HX, do you like it?? I have the opportunity to buy one of these soon and am considering getting it.

I love it, the HX is a totally different beast then other skis.

It's like a motorcycle that carves thru water, instead of a wave runner that rides on top of the water.

It's a wet fun fast ride, which usually results in you flying off head first into the water.. :) It's very tippy, unless it's clam you need to have it running to stay on it, it's somewhere between a standup and a waver runner, once you learn the reboarding techniques it's a blast..

It's definitely not a family friendly ski, 1 person, built for performance, if you get it search pwctoday for reboarding video/write ups, it's easy once you do it...

Old post, but good stuff! Searched and found this this morning. Super Clean, toilet brush, scotch brite pad, and a little elbow grease worked great to clean my 97 spx that probably hadn't had the bilge cleaned since...1997.

having done many seadoo pwc rebuilds, and always running across dirty, nasty, filthy hulls, i've found the most effective to be a gallon of purple power (use a spray bottle, i just use an old windex bottle) spray everything with a little grime on it, then hit it with low pressure on a pressure washer, and 90% slides right off, then hit the remaining 10% again, and spray, and 99% will be gone.

i recently picked up a 96 challenger with a fried motor, so I waited to clean it out after the engine was pulled. and it worked great, and used a shop vac for the last remnants of fluid in the bottom. same procedure for the inside of all the storage area's, makes it come out new.
