Clean a bilge?

So, the 89 GS I'm working on has a bad fuel smell in the bilge and is generally slimy.
It's been sitting for an undetermined period of time. PO said it wouldn't run due to "a fuel issue", thinking failed lines TBH.

So,, is there a "best procedure" to clean a bilge without pulling the engine? I hate working in a mess/smell.
Something like, "Tip it up, pour hot soapy water in the front, let it drain out the back? Repeat.

Slosh a jug of simple green or similar product around in the bottom of the ski then pull the drain plugs and hose it out.

Many of the guys here use simple green, as stated above, or super clean (purple bottle). I used a dollar store brand degreaser that worked great as well. I covered my MPEM, zip tied all electricals at a higher elevation, and sprayed everything down with degreaser then let it sit for a few. Hit the hard spots with a rough spunge, then rinse it all out the back. I had the ski's ass angled way down so everything would drain. Then hit all engine componenets with WD-40 to keep water from sitting on it. Mine was a mess, though. You may not have to do all that.

That is pretty much what I figured.

It's not bad, I just like things clean. Especially when I am working with electric!!

Yeah I hear that. It's so much nicer to work with the indisdes all clean, especially if you want to see if anything is leaking - makes that a hell of a lot easier.
