carb rebuild kits

is jetlyne kits any good? i had problems getting the fuel grommets in. i punctured both grommets so i purchased some others and they went in with no problem. should i just go with an oem mikuni kit or are jetlyne's any good? any info helps only want to do this once. also upon cleaning the carbs i had more than one hole completely colgged. one was one the pump accelerator side carb. cant remember but its one with a big fuel line. do these have built in check valves? if not i finally got it unclogged by shoving the carb cleaner straw down and spraying the crap out of it.
 
No...really the only way to go is the genuine kits. The Jetlyne ones blow. The only reason the aftermarket kits are cheaper is b/c they dont have the filter, among other parts.

I'm right with him on this.

Every year, we see carb related problems that are new, after the owner rebuilds them.

As above... there are a bunch of parts that you have to buy extra... but there are a few more issues.

1) the springs in the kit aren't calibrated as well as the OEM springs. So... you can replace your springs with 2 of the proper color... but you may find that the pop-off pressure is WAY off... and may be different between the 2 carbs. We normally say to leave your old springs in, if they aren't damaged.

2) We have also found problems with the aftermarket diaphragms. First... the problem is that the pin in the middle is sometimes too long. Also, we have found that they are slightly too stiff. The problem with this is, either you can't get the pop off set... or you will will find that the needle won't seal... and will leak. (causing anything from hard re-starts, to poor performance overall)

It's not worth saving the $10 per kit to use the aftermarket kits.


Finally... most of the time when you "Rebuild" a carb... you don't need a kit. If you are careful, and don't damage any of the gaskets... most of the time... all the parts can be reused.
