96 GSX, to start cold not only do I have to pull the choke I have to pull on the throttle with my knee. The guy I bought it from 4 years ago told me that is how he always started it. That is getting a bit old starting it that way. What should I check? I'm a rookie when it comes to carbs so feel free to talk down to me. I did take them off and clean the filters 2 years ago by following the step by step in the manual. I have not done a rebuild kit. It does run fine otherwise (except for my prior post about it running rough when i took it out for the first time this year 2 hours ago) but after a couple minutes it ran fine. in my prior post i was guesssing dirt in the fuel that worked it's way thru or more likely a piece of seaweed in the impeller.

Mine's a little cold natured also. I push the start button with my left hand, pull the choke with my right and hit the throttle with my right forearm. I really don't even think about it any more. Even when she's warm I always give her a little throttle. I really wouldn't worry about it.

Try pullling the choke, and just letting it in a LITTLE bit, itll let a bit more air through. May still not be enough to do the trick tho.

I to give mine a little throttle when starting, same as the Ski-doo.

I rarely have to choke but I figured out that if I twist my choke handle just a bit it'll stay in place for me to open the throttle.
