Can you fit VTS from an 08 wake to a 02 GTX

Hey all,

Just trying to see if anyone with technical knowledge knows whether you can fit the vts system from an 08 wake ski to the 02 gtx? Being as the wake is a variant of the GTX I thought it may be possible the only problem might be the age difference with hull shape, does anyone know for sure.

Kinda strange, didn't see a VTS system for the 02 GTX, though that doesn't mean it hasn't got one. There are many parts in these indexes that aren't exactly like the machine. I did however look at the 02 XP. The motor assembly is identical by the part numbers, though the housing is shown that it was discontinued. My first thought is, being the VTS is fairly generic, it will probably fit. But, I'd def solicit more opinions on this, since the VTS isn't my cup of tea....

FWIW many people have adapted VTS from the RXP to the RXT. Unless there's some big design change I'm missing I don't think it should be a problem to do the same on the 2002 GTX. Making the trim ring work might require some additional spacers/misc. hardware if the nozzle design is different on the earlier GTX.

I didn't think GTX had a VTS option. Do you want to adapt it to the GTX and make it fit?

I am going off the fact that later models of the wake do have VTS and the wake is a GTX plus they havent changed too much so I'm just trying to work out if all the parts from that will match up to mine. So far the only real issue I can find is the ecu or mpem on mine may not be as accepting of the change.

The rxt that got fitted had some computer fiddling to tell it that the vts was there, i guess for the dash display.

VTS is a display option on all late model mpems, you can just check the box on BUDS to turn it on, GTXs are just unchecked.

I'm glad you brought this up because I hadn't considered the wiring at first. Unless the 02 GTX harness is compatible with another year 4-tec model with the VTS option you are going to have to do custom wiring. If you do go down that road of trying to swap harnesses I think your best bet is going to be trying a 2004 RXP harness, but I am skeptical that they are compatible. Or I guess another option would be to make the VTS a stand alone system, independent from the electrical system. The only downside I could see is no VTS position gauge on the dash.

4tec wiring harness and 2 strokes are way different, nothing is the same. if you had a 99 gsxl harness you would be set, same motor, same gauges, just has vts. the actual vts housing and module would work from the wake but not the wiring, pretty much all vts systems are the same except for the wiring connectors.

I had assumed he was talking about the 2002 GTX 4-tec. I figured since he was saying his 02 is a variant of the 08 wake he most likely has a GTX 4-tec (2-stroke GTX has different body style than 4-tec skis). Well, the 2002 GTX DI used the new top deck design too...I guess the OP will have to clarify what GTX he has.

You're right Fizzle, his ski is a 4tec in his watercraft. so, forget what I said. Not sure if the vts harness would already be there on the 02. I agree 04 RXP harness would probably work but not sure either, may be simpler just to wire separately into the MPEM. You'll need the buttons anyway and that harness.

Yea it is the 4-tec as you have noticed. Basically everything we are all saying is the stuff im slowly investigating to figure out whether it is possible or not.

Always good to have a project.

And the variant bit isnt that my 02 is exactly the same as an 08 its just stating how the wake editions start life as a GTX then get the bits added to be a wake.
