Can a 4tec be turned over by hand while still in the ski?

Theoretical situation here: You've pulled the head on a 4tec to change the valves out. You put the head back on and attached the timing chain. How do you turn it over by hand to make sure you got the timing right? I never do a timing belt or chain on a car and not check the timing by hand, but the only way I can think of to turn the motor over is by sticking a tool into the driveshaft splines. What if the driveshaft is still in? Is there a practical way to turn one of these babies over without using the starter?

I like the pump cone idea. Messy, but safe. As for the S/C... I guess that would work too, provided the S/C clutch is strong enough to turn the motor over. I think it should be, as it's a small gear turning a much larger one. That's probably the way to go. I don't think using the SC to rotate would change the tension on the SC clutch as you're grabbing it by the actual shaft rather than the nut that tightens. Also, I think you'd have to turn the S/C counterclockwise to rotate the engine clockwise, right?

It isn't messy. It is a synthetic grease, not oil. So nothing drips or comes out of the cone or impeller.
