I hear rumors that the brass pump allows the prop to spin 200-300 RPM more than the plastic pump...

any truth to this?

I have a brass one on my 99 I could swap onto my 02 for S&G...

My engine won't pass 6,700 RPM WOT smooth water with a fresh 951 and Solas Concord 15/20, plastic pump. all 100% new.

New engine, new reeds, NEW carbs, NEW throttle cable.

so, anyway, I put on the brass pump from my 99, which does do 7k WOT. Some wear on the ring, nothing over a scratch.
OEM impeller for a 99 GTX LTD.

Saturday I plan to test at Blue Marsh... bringing my plastic pump just in case this one sucks (or blows, depending on which side of the pump your on).

The factory prop is 271000920 which appears to be 15/21.

So what was the outcome. I changed my pump on my 99 gsxl to a brass pump and a Solas concord 15/20. Very similar machines I liked the performance of the stock prop. About to try the new pump and prop tomorrow

So im new to this Jet ski stuff but have recently came across several pumps. The one in my hands now seems to have brass veins but an outer plastic housing. Is this one of the more desirable pumps. Or is the best a solid brass ?????

thanks

The pump is actually made out of bronze not brass. And yes the bronze pump is the most desirable. The inner part is made of bronze and the outer part is made of plastic. I've never seen one made entirely of bronze, it could be an aftermarket, it's gonna be real heavy, post a picture. I think R&D made a solid aluminum pump, but they're pretty rare.

Here is one of the pumps I have... oddly enough I think I sold a pump that was solid aluminum... no telling

Per Yamaha hull sticker: WARNING!!
SEVERE INTERNAL INJURIES CAN OCCUR IF WATER IS FORCED INTO BODY CAVITIES ( RECTUM AND VAGINA ) AS A RESULT OF BEING NEAR JET THRUST NOZZLES!

Okay another dumb pump question

I have 2 pumps which seem to have the bronze veins. One measures to roughly 140mm and the other roughly 135mm. Im measuring the wear ring so maybe wear is playing into the measurements im not sure.

The one which is 140mm has a plastic housing with bronze veins. The other which measures roughly 135mm has an aluminum housing with bronze veins.

Which one should I use one my 778?????

any value to either ???? I would assume that the aluminum housing pump would be better if they were the same size... Maybe im wrong

The plastic housing with Bronze veins would be my choice because I think it's the newer of the 2. I would concentrate more on getting a stainless wear ring insert and possibly a good impeller.
